Two Choral Prayers

Prayers for Peace is a collection of three beautiful prayer settings by Alexander L'Estrange: God be in my head  Lighten our Darkness and The Lord's Prayer. Ideal as introits anthems or in a concert programme the pieces are testament to L'Estrange's ability to write music which is simple and accessible yet at the same time full of expression and exquisite harmonies. The settings are for unaccompanied SATB but they have an optional piano/organ part to provide support if required.   Prayers for Peace is part of Faber Music's exciting ChoralSignature Series which introduces a wealth of new or recently written choral music to choirs in search of fresh repertoire. The series draws in a rich diversity of living composers offering a thrilling array of varied styles.

Nr. 2 Prayers in Time of Distress-Organist and Master of Music at York Minster Philip Moore is also a prolific choral composer. These Prayers the most frequently requested of his works make a poignantly attractive setting for unaccompanied mixed choir. This is the second prayer in a collection of three pieces which were commissioned by Equinox with words from Letters And Papers From Prison by Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

The Prayers Of Kierkegaard were selected from the Kierkegaard's various writings and sermons written between 1847 and 1855. Prayers Of Kierkegaard was completed in January 1954 and was first performed by the Boston Symphony and the Cecelia Society on December 3rd 1954. This Vocal Score edition has a Piano reduction of the original Orchestral score and is scored for Mixed Chorus Soprano Solo and Piano.Words in English and German. The German translation has been provided by Lonja Stehelin-Holzing.

Par WHITBOURN JAMES. This glorious collection of beautiful choral music by composer James Whitbourn includes fifteen short works drawn from his oeuvre from the first few years of the 21st century. Many of his greatest compositions are included in The Choral Collection, with many of the pieces working perfectly for seasonal performances, while also reflecting the many fruitful collaborations of Whitbourn's distinguished career. All works are arranged for SATB Choir. James Whitbourn has become renowned throughout the world for his acclaimed compositions and settings of numerous texts. He has been described as truly original and an innovator of contemporary British choral music, collaborating with people like Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Choir of King's College, Cambridge. The former appears here, as A Prayer Of Desmond Tutu, a setting of one of the Archbishop's prayers. His arrangements and compositions for the King's College Choir have been universally critically acclaimed, with A Great And Mighty Wonder, Nunc Dimittis and Were You There? representing these hugely popular collaborations. Whitbourn has also had a very close relationship with the BBC since his beginnings as a composer, working with them on three pieces within The Choral Collection. Eternal Rest and Give Us The Wings Of Faith were both composed specifically for television broadcast, the former (in its orchestral form) was played for the funeral of the Queen Mother in 2002. His longest work, for which he is most famous, is a setting of text from'the Diary of Anne Frank'. There Is No Speech Or Language comes from this work, taking its text from other sources, but that still maintain the beauty and tragedy of the wider piece. The Choral Collection of fifteen compositions by James Whitbourn is full of beautiful, haunting, uplifting and inspiring melodies for SATB Choir and Organ Accompaniment from one of the most treasured British choral composers. The brilliant choice of texts throughout is matched only by the sheer compositional skill of Whitbourn in evoking the emotions of the words in the musical form. Also included are suggestions for seasonal song use, a list of recordings, and fascinating song notes written by Whitbourn himself. For the mature male choir this stunning chant-like setting consists of three different prayers revealing the full depth of the Kierkegaard text. Although not vocally difficult the quality of the interpretation lies in thenatural flow and meaning of this powerful text. Duration: ca. 4:00.

Paul Mealor’s Celtic Prayers was commissioned by the BBC for the BBC National Orchestraof Wales to celebrate St David’s Day 1st March 2014. The premiere took place on that date at St. David’s Hall Cardiff at a gala concert with the participation of the BBC National Chorus of Wales as well as massed youth choirs conducted by Grant Llewellyn.

Legend tells on Rosh Hashana (the New Year) God opens the books which record all men's deeds and for ten days examines the course of every man's life during the past year. On Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) the books are closed and each man's fate is sealed until the next year. This allegorical vision should inspire every individual to scrutinize his life and resolve to better himself. The Jew firmly believes that God wants the repentance of the sinner so that he may live; therefore he believes that by penitence prayer and good deeds God's judgement can be swayed in his favour and he be inscribed in 'the book of life.'The four prayers were commissioned by Hazzan Samuel Rosenbaum and the Sisterhood of Temple Beth El Rochester New York.Uv'shofar Gadol is for SATB choir a cappella with Tenor soloist.
