Later, inspired by the guitarist, viola player and painter, Martin Nicolai, she turned to the guitar. Since 1971 she has lived and worked in Germany as a musician, composer and pedagogue. She has travelled through many countries and lived and worked in China for five years. Many of her compositions, numbering around 500 to date, were written on these journeys, and include works for solo guitar, guitar duets and trios, songs and chamber music. Arrangements that are designed to be enjoyed in a number of settings. Companion books for violin and viola are available. Each offers the melody and harmony part along with piano accompaniment. A près de vingt ans de son premier essai pour Quatuor à cordes (Cinq Séquences, en 1963), Maurice Ohana retourne à ce genre difficile, pour lequel il a gardé une secrète prédilection au long de ces années d'apparent éloignement (avec l'exception de Stream pour trio à cordes et voix de basse, composé en 1970).Une commande du Ministre de la Culture en 1977 (c'était, à l'époque, Madame Françoise Giroud), lui fournit le prétexte. L'oeuvre sera écrite entre 1979 et 1980. Une fois encore, Maurice Ohana cherche à échapper au trop grand sérieux que la plupart des compositeurs croient devoir observer en traitant l'assemblage des quatre instruments du quatuor. Les sous-titres, déjà, annoncent une oeuvre d'imagination plutôt que d'écriture ou de recherche: Sagittaire, Mood, Alborada, Faran-Ngô.On perçoit, ici et là, une guitare voilée, des rythmes qui font penser à une mystérieuse 'Nuit dans Grenade', plus tragique peut-être que la 'Soirée' de Claude Debussy.Sagittaire, après un appel initial, enchaîne des rythmes martelés et obsédants.Dans Mood, les réminiscences d'un Negro Spiritual semblent affleurer, comme dans d'autres ouvrages du compositeur où les Blues de sa jeunesse ont laissé un écho persistant.Alborada déploie le prisme d'harmonies lumineuses pulvérisées dans une brume sonore onirique.
