Péter Wolf's collection Wolf-temperiertes Klavier, published in 2018, referring to the series The Well-Tempered Clavier by Bach, contains 24 piano pieces, a major and a minor key composition based on each pitch of the chromatic scale. The ninth piece, an Adagio in E major, is one of the gems in the volume, building on the tradition of the Baroque pastorale. This soaring melody has been arranged by the composer to a duet: above the piano accompaniment, it can be performed by a violin or a flute (either by an oboe or other melodic instrument).

This collection contains works from the so-called “Belle Époque”, the time period right around the turn of the 20th century which have been arranged for flute and piano by Franco Cesarini. It includes pieces by Dukas and Massenet, two early works by Ravel that are on the cusp of the impressionistic period and compositions by Bizet and Saint-Saëns which represent the late-romantic period. The book comes with a CD which contains a demo of each piece, followed by the piano accompaniment which you can play along with. The cycle Scenes for solo flute, written in September 1997 and dedicated to Ádám Szokolay, occupies an extraordinary place in György Kurtág's oeuvre. The premiere of the long-withheld composition was held in 2016 on the composer's 90th birthday. Each movement in the cycle reformulates familiar gestures of Kurtág's music: it develops pensive, impetuous, ethereal or playful characters. Signs, Games and Messages are collections for solo instruments and small chamber ensembles. Each of the three words refers to an essential factor in Kurtág's music. Signs ties to the composer's study year in Paris as a young man, when he could not compose but merely put graphic signs on the paper. Games links with his nine-volume series for the piano with that title. Messages conveys the very personal content of these works, in that these short pieces are actually diary-notes and missives to musicians and friends important to Kurtág. The collection - like similar collections for string and wind instruments - does not form a coherent cycle; thepieces can be played individually, or in various orders, or together with pieces from Signs, Games and Messages written for other instruments.

It remains uncertain why Sibelius wrote another version of the work with German text only for voice and string orchestra around the same time. As far as is known this latter version has never been performed before its first publication in the volume of the complete edition Jean Sibelius Works in 2003. In den meisten Fallen beschrankte sich Sibelius auf ein relativ kleines Orchester. In ,,Varen flyktar hastigt sind neben den Streichern nur zwei Floten und vier Horner besetzt. Nearly all of the orchestral arrangements were made years after the original compositions for voice and piano. Yet even though the arrangements were made in a very short period of time Sibelius handled the combination of solo voice and orchestra in all songs with equal mastery sometimes creating dark and dramatic atmospheres (in Pa verandan vid havet) sometimes radiant colorful impressions (in Soluppgang) or light-colored transparent textures (in Varen flyktar hastigt) and always basing his ideas on the poetic idea of the song while discovering refined ways of supporting it. In most cases Sibelius used a comparatively small orchestra: Varen flyktar hastigt has only two flute and four horns added to the strings.

Carl Maria von Weber's fame rests mainly on 'Der Freischutz'. The unprecedented success of this opera overshadowed all his other works and contributed to their increasing fall into oblivion. Certain works such as 'Preciosa', 'Oberon', and 'Euryanthe', the overtures, solo concertos and piano sonatas, the lieder and chamber works enjoyed great popularity and were widely known in Germany and abroad as late as the second half of the 19th century. However, any chance of a revival of Weber's influential and substantial oeuvre was wasted in the 1920s, when a complete edition - begun by Hans Joachim Moser and with potential contributors including Wilhelm Kempff, Hans Pfitzner, Max von Schillings, Fritz Stein and Richard Strauss - failed after the third volume.Ever since there have been numerous attempts to restart a complete edition of Weber's works, but as this kind of project would have required the co-operation of scholars from both sides of the inter-German border, the political situation after 1945 was not conducive to any such enterprise. Careful negotiations led to the first tangible steps in the 1980s. The intention, right from the beginning, was to place Weber's work in context, and not to separate his musical output from his influential work as a writer, critic and organiser in the musical field, but to publish his compositions together with his letters, diaries and other literary output as the best way to document the cross-fertilisation between his musical, literary and practical activities.Since the German re-unification both working-parties concerned - at the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, and at the Musikwissenschaftliches Seminar, Detmold/Paderborn - have co-operated on the complete edition of the musical works (c. 45 volumes in 10 series: sacred music; cantatas, odes and other occasional works; stage works; lieder and vocal works; orchestral works; chamber music; music for piano; piano reductions; miscellanea, arrangements and orchestrations; works of doubtful attribution). The diaries (6-8 vols.) are edited in Berlin and the letters (8-10 vols.) and other writings (2 vols.) in Detmold. This complete edition aims to be a reliable basis of scholarly debate as well as for the authentic performance practice of Carl Maria von Weber's music. Conforming to the standards of recent historico-critical editions, the textual material will be based on all available authentic sources, accompanied by a detailed documentation of the genesis and a list of variants for each work. The musicological importance of the works will be evaluated by placing them in their historical context, the presentation of their genesis, history and Critical Commentaries. The letters, writings and diaries will be treated as inter-related and relevant to each other in the commentaries, therefore readers should benefit from a wealth of concise information and cross-references.

The present volume contains all three settings by Vivaldi of the Marian antiphon Salve Regina that have come down to us. All three are for solo voice: soprano in the case of RV 617, and contralto in that of RV 616 and RV 618. The last two settings are scored for two instrumental cori and introduce woodwind instruments, respectively a flute and a pair of oboes, whereas the instrumentation of the first is confined to strings disposed in a single coro, although a solo violin is employed in three movements. RV 617, preservedin a non-autograph source in Brno, belongs to Vivaldis first period of sacred music composition at the Pietà (1713-1717), while RV 616 and RV 618 are works of his maturity dating from the years around 1730. RV 617 is laid out in four movements, RV 616 and 618 in six movements. All three works are noteworthy for the tenderness of their expression and skilful writing for both the voice and the instruments. The Introduction and Critical Commentary for these vocal scores, prepared by Antonio Frigé, are closely based on those of the Critical Editions by Michael Talbot, published in 1998, 1990 and 1994.
