The eighth volume in the Seasons of Grace series features a delightful mix of chant and traditional hymnody along with several popular contemporary liturgical songs. The beautiful melodies of Michael Joncas are featured in two pieces (his well-loved “As Morning Breaks†as well as one of his newest creations, “Deep and Lasting Peaceâ€). The dynamic pieces “’Tis the Gift to Be Simple,†“Noel Nouvelet,†and “Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella,†dance along with sparkling eighth and sixteenth notes. Newer liturgical titles include pieces by Jeanne Cotter, Chris de Silva, Rory Cooney, Zach Stachowski, and Paul’s “Life Is Changed, Not Ended.†The collection is rounded out by two more of Paul’s popular interludes, both of which are created for flexible use with optional repeats laid out on two easy-to-read pages. Most pieces are at the intermediate level, with only a few moments of more advanced technique that may require extra preparation. Complete your collection with Volume 8 today! DawnQuiet miles of golden sky,And in my heart a sudden flower.I want to clap my hands and sighFor Beauty in her secret bower. Quiet golden miles of dawnâ??Smiling all the East along; And in my heart nigh fully grown,A little rose-bud of a song.â??From â??Last Songsâ? by Francis LedwidgeDawn, radiant dawn! When morning comes my fears are gone.Daylight breaks, my soul awakes! And songs of Love sing on. â??Italics: Additional text by Jacob NarverudAbout the PoetFrancis Ledwidge (1887â??1917) was an Irish poet from Slane, County Meath. Ledwidge started writing at an early age and was first published in a local newspaper when he was fourteen years old. Ledwidge left the local national school shortly after and worked as a farm hand, road surface mender, and copper miner at Beaupark Mine near Slane. Ledwidge became friends with a local landowner, the writer Lord Dunsany, who gave him a workspace in the library of Dunsany Castle and introduced him to literary figures, including William Butler Yeats and Katherine Tynan. Some of Ledwidgeâ??s manuscripts are held in the National Library of Ireland. The main surviving collection, including his early works and personal letters, are in the archives of Dunsany Castle.

The ST CLEMENT tune, often associated with an evening hymn, is here paired with a fresh morning hymn of praise: Hail, holy light! The world rejoices as morning breaks and shadows fly; all nature blends her myriad voices to greet the dayspring from on high... Break forth, in glory far excelling, O light eternal, love divine! Howard Helvey's choral and piano writing shine exquisitely as always in this anthem.
