The Butterfly that Stamped is a story from the anthology Just So Stories, written by Rudyard Kipling for his daughter who suffered constant bad health. The book inspired composer Maxim Aulio to compose this work which is in a French impressionistic style. The piece opens with a beautiful palace surrounded by the impressive gardens of King Solomon. It is in these gardens that the baritone saxophone makes its appearance representing King Solomon himself, the flute representing the butterfly couple, the clarinet representing Queen Balkis and the trumpet the djin. The Piano music of Jean Sibelius ranks among the greatest of Finnish music, and his 1924 set Five Charactereistic Impressions demonstrates his importance. The first of this set, The Village Church is a ceremonial theme bringing to mind the oaccasions and events that surround a small place of worship and that is perfect for ushering in the start of a programme. An impressionist piece that captures the imagery of reality with tonality, colour and a solemn pace.

Almost no other song in the history of pop has been covered in as many versions as the Beatles classic Yesterday from 1965. The original contains a string quartet accompaniment that provides the perfect backing for Paul McCartneyâ??s vocal and guitar parts. Nico Dezaire's arrangement recreates the unmistakable sound of the original whilst giving the impression that the entire song ideal was always meant to be played by string instruments. Was also liegt näher, als den Evergreen gleich in Streichquartett-Besetzung aufzuführen?

Maurice Ravel's Mother Goose is arguably one of the most well-known and well-loved of Ravel's works. Whether one encounters it first in its original iteration for piano, four hands, or in the sweeping orchestra transcription, Mother Goose leaves an impression that isn't soon forgotten. The pieces are short, simple, and descriptive, but are nonetheless ravishing, and beautifully showcase Ravel’s genius and compositional skills. Now for the first time, the entire work has been transcribed for solo harp by harpist Carl Swanson. Each of the original five movements has been carefully edited, making the pieces playable on solo harp, while keeping the spirit that Ravel intended. Here is a valuable addition to the harp repertoire by one of the greatest composers of the twentieth century, Maurice Ravel.

I wrote this piece as a tribute to the beautiful city of Moulares (France's south west) where I did a guitar training. No particular difficulty except the polyphonic aspect. Play this piece such that parts 1, 2 and 3 give the impression that they are played by a single guitar. - Didier COLL.
