Beethoven?s 32 Piano Sonatas are often referred to as the ?New Testament of Music? (Hans von Bülow). Since the publication of our complete edition in two volumes experts have praised it as being themost reliable Urtext edition. Its contents: an almost inexhaustible wealth of pianistic musical flights of inspiration predominantly high profile works the Sonatas ?Pathétique? ?Moonlight? ?Storm? ?Appassionata? ?Waldstein? ?Hammerklavier?. Sonatas 1-12-As the foremost representative of Czech music in 18th-century Vienna Leopold Kozeluh (1747 -1818) was noted primarily as composer pianist and keyboard teacher. His 50 keyboard sonatas span his entire career and mark not only the transition from the harpsichord and clavichord manner to the fully idiomatic forte-piano style but also the development of the 'classical sonata' in the range of several decades (1773-1809).Until now pianists have had little chance to acquaint themselves with the complete range of Kozeluh's sonatas since few existed in modern editions. Six Sonatas for Violin and Viola Hob. VI:1?6-The title ?Solo per il Violino? which Haydn gave these sonatas in his ?Entwurf-Katalog? (the handwritten catalogue he maintained of his own works) already gives us an indication: it is only the Violinwhich is treated as a solo instrument in these six sonatas the Viola has an accompanying role. This new, completely revised and reset centenary edition of Satie?s complete piano music in three volumes has returned to Satie?s manuscripts and first editions to give pianists completely accurate and reliable texts to play from. As well as presenting every piece for piano solo or piano reduction that Satie published, this edition also includes some previously unknown pieces, like the Petite Sonate that he wrote for Vincent d?Indy at the Schola Cantorum, as well as some interesting first versions of well-known pieces, like San Bernardo, a trial version of Españaña (1913) and the markedly different first version of Les Pantins dansent (1914). In addition, there areexamples of the different types of exercises that Satie completed at the Schola between 1905 and 1912, some extra trial Enfantines, and some earlier drafts of his famous Sports et divertissements. To help pianists, suggested metronome marks have been added throughout, and there are also some performance suggestions for the Rose Croix pieces of the 1890s, which otherwise appear to be all quiet and slow. The notation has been made as user-friendly as possible, without detracting from Satie?s concerns about the ?extériorisation? of his musical thought in print.

Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's works for violin and harpsichord obbligato pervade his entire compositional oeuvre. The earliest works, like the Sonata in D minor still numbered BWV 1036, date back to the years of study with his father, yet show already a remarkable creative will of his own. The latest work, the fantasia 'C. P. E. Bachs Empfindungen' in F flat minor of 1787 is characterized by the composer's highly expressive late style. The new two-volume edition of Wiener Urtext Edition contains C. P. E. Bach's complete works for harpsichord (piano) obbligato and violin. Vol. 1 contains not only the sonatas Wq 71-74 and BWV 1036 but also the arrangements of the trios Wq 143-145 for violin and harpsichord, most of which are included in C. P. E. Bach's autographs, as well as a - previously ignored - early version of Wq 71 which, like BWV 1036, grants a rare insight into the early works of the composer. Vol. 2 contains the four major sonatas of 1763 which already fascinated Johannes Brahms. Brahms not only played them in concert, together with Joseph Hellmesberger, but also published two of these sonatas in 1864. This volume concludes with the two late works 'Arioso' and 'Fantasie' of 1781 and 1787 respectively. With these works, C. P. E. Alla Turca. Published in 1784, Mozart?s Sonata in A major ?for clavier solo?, with its famous ?Alla Turca? finale, is one of the most popular works in the entire piano literature. After a section of the lost autograph was rediscovered a few years ago, another important source has surfaced with the appearance of a previously unknown contemporary copy of the complete autograph, which has prompted Bärenreiter to issue an up-to-date Urtext edition of this celebrated piece. The copy by a professional Viennese copyist throws new light on the problem of the numerous discrepancies between autographs and first editions of many Mozart sonatas. It supports the assumption that the revision of the text for the first edition resulted from the change of target group from Mozart's inner circle to an audience of connoisseurs and amateurs, but that this did not render the original (autograph) text obsolete: rather, both versions of the sonata represent historical realities. To achieve a truly faithful scholarly-critical performance edition of Mozart's sonata, the editor, Mario Aschauer, has set new editorial standards and offers the most innovative methodological approach of our time by presenting the musical text of the autograph and the original print separately without merging the sources editorially to a new text. On the basis of the newly discovered source, it is possible for the first time to reconstruct the autograph transmission of this famous sonata and offer it to the performer as a self-contained playable version. The preface allows surprising new insights into the form and source situation of the sonata (Ger / Eng). The edition is supplemented by a chapter on performance practice providing in-depth information on piano playing in Mozart?s time (Ger / Eng).
