These are the instrumental parts for John Tavener's To A Child Dancing In The Wind for Soprano Flute/Alto Flute Viola and Harp. The entire work lasts around 30 minutes and sets a number of poems byW.B. Yeats considered by Tavener as one of the greatest poets of the 20th century. To A Child Dancing In The Wind?was commissioned by the Little Missenden Festival and firstperformed on 16th October 1983 at Little Missenden Parish Church. John Tavener is well-known for his extensive catalogue of religious music but occasionally he was drawn to less overtlysacred sources. The ?frailty tenderness and spiritual transparency of Yeats? poetry? inspired this song-cycle from 1983 for Soprano Flute Harp and Viola. Tavener held Yeats in high regard and was to return to hispoems in later works such as Mini Song-Cycle for Gina (1984) A Nativity (1985) and Supernatural Songs (2003). To A Child Dancing In The Wind is dedicated to Tavener?s first wife VictoriaMaragopoulou.

Camille Saint-Saëns? The Carnival of the Animals is one of his most popular works altogether. Yet during his lifetime he refused to publish this orchestral piece for fear it would damage his reputation as a serious-minded musician. Now Jennifer Seubel and Sally Beck the flautists of ?Duo Noble? have arranged this famous work for two flutes. The transformation of the major instruments timbres and melodies of the orchestral version into solely two flute parts posed a special challenge. The results exploit the full tonal spectrum of the flute. The arrangement offers several alternatives to expand the range of sound: for example a piccolo can be substitutedfor either flute part in No. 2 Poules et coqs and for the first flute in No. 7 Aquarium. The complete Carnival of the Animals for two flutes14 challenging and effective pieces

Parts for Hans Abrahamsen's Flowersongs (2012 version) for Flute Oboe and Clarinet. 'I wrote Flowersongs for three Flutes in the spring of 1973 when I was 20 years old. Looking back now 40 years begins to feel like a really long time and sometimes I think that it is as if someone in 1973 is talking about a piece from 1933! But in spite of this long time this is still a very important piece for me. In Flowersongs along with works like '10 Preludes' for String Quartet and 'Stratifications' for Orchestra I feel that I was on my way to finding my own voice in the middle of the music of the great CentralEuropean modernist tradition from the 50s and the reaction from the 60s of the new simplicity minimalism and the possibility of poly-stilisme. The English title Flowersongs links to the flower power movement and the hippie culture of the 60s and the early 70s and the work is trying to find the power inherent in this imaginary world. Many of my later works have titles in German for example 'Winternacht' (1976/78) 'Nacht und Trumpeten' (1981) and much later 'Schnee' (2006-08). If we think of Flowersongs in German it must be Blumenlieder and to me it now sounds suddenly very different more romantic and into the world of Schumann. Perhaps it is also a way in which to hear the piece? Another thing is that the correct English title is Flower Songs (as two words) and not as one word like in German or Danish. This is perhaps the German connection as I incorrectly wrote the title as one word; but perhaps it is also a kind of naivety which is also part of the work. I cannot help but carry with me to this day the ideas from my early works. For example there are clear links in this work from the 8th Prelude from '10 Preludes' and to Canon 2a from 'Schnee' from 2008. This work is written for the wonderful ensemble recherche and it was meeting them that made me consider making a version of

These beautifully crafted works are all without exception a delight to play and suitable for a broad level of player. They are a lovely example of Classical style and detailed in a way that makes them a joy to perform and as they are less than 10 minutes long they are a perfect addition to a short recital programme. Wilhelm Popp studied with the great Louis Drouet in the 1850s and wrote many charming works for the flute thisamong them. Susan Milan acclaimed soloist and teacher has edited this elegant edition. They are a lovely example of Classical style and detailed in a way that makes them a joy to perform and as they are less than 10 minutes long they are a perfect addition to a short recital programme. In editing the Sonatinas I have tidied some of the articulation making the flute part consistent. Discrepancies between markings in the flute and piano part have been corrected. I have occasionally added some slurs where I feel the lyrical nature of a section might be enhanced shown as 'dotted' slurs. Where staccati appear to be missing I have added them. I have not on the whole added expression marks. I have not changed or removed original markings.'
