Internationally renowned concert pianist Joseph Banowetz presents this definitive collection of original masterworks by Sergei Rachmaninoff featuring a comprehensive preface, composer biography, vintage photographs, and detailed performance notes on the solos. A concert performance CD is included with the book. Included are Rachmaninoff's Opus 28 and Opus 36 Sonatas. The Opus 28 in D-minor in three movements was completed in 1907 and was introduced in Dresden Germany. The Opus 36 in B-flat minor also in three movements was written and 1913 but was later revised by the composer.

From an earlier Belwin Mills edition, this is Volume 2 of a series of the piano works of the great Russian-American composer. These compositions were written as picture pieces, though Rachmaninoff did not reveal what each piece was to suggest, preferring to leave that discovery to the pianist. The Five Etudes Tableaux were orchestrated by the Italian composer Ottorino Respighi from a selection of the composer's Opp. 33 and 39. Symphonic Dances (Op. 45) was the last composition Rachmaninoff ever wrote while Vocalise is the last in Op. 34 a collection of 14 Romances.Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) was a Russian composer and pianist who was able to push the boundaries of virtuosic Piano composition through his incredible skills as a performer.
