Originally written for and played by Bud Shank, this showpiece for alto sax features a wide dynamic range and calls for a soft, smooth approach to background figures. Though written solo lines are provided throughout, the main solo chorus includes chord changes for players with improvisation chops. The chart closes out with a solo cadenza over a sustained band chord.

In its original version, this contemporary ballad featured alto sax soloist -- here tenor sax is the star -- but the rich harmonic character and lyrical qualities of the professional version have been retained. Developing players will need to practice the split triplets since they give the tune its loose, relaxed feelingbut that work will be well rewarded at concert time.
