Caesar has called a census in the Holy Land. So everyone is crowding back into Bethlehem a town where they read Shalom! Magazine where suddenly there are donkey traffic gridlocks and hotels where you can't get a room for love or shekels. Tom works doing odd jobs at the Fun Big Inn which isn't much fun at all. This busy night he decides to leave the landlord in the lurch and head for the bright lights of Jerusalem. But he doesn't get far running first into reggae singing shepherds and then three groovy wise dudes following a star. Tom can hardly ignore the remarkable things they have to tell him. POD-Richard Allain's The Magi's Gifts for SATB choir unaccompanied. This work was commissioned by Merton College Oxford as part of the Merton Choirbook a collection of music being assembled to celebrate Merton College's 750th anniversary in 2014. The Magi's Gifts was first performed on 19th January 2014 in Merton College Chapel by the Choir of Merton College conducted by Benjamin Nicholas. How poor the gifts we offered How precious those we received.   'The music is unaccompanied in six parts (two soprano lines and a baritone line enrich the harmony) quite slow and with rich harmony requiring fine tuning from the choir. A musical celebration of children's rights for narrator choir and ensemble/backing tracks.It's easy to learn once heard not easily forgotten funny yet serious lighthearted yet touching: a parable of our times and for our times.The chorus of 'Jake And The Juveniles' would have a very good chance of winning the annual Doveton Talent Contest if only they could get Jake out of bed in the morning. But even when they do down at the shelter where they rehearse they are met by the demolition men and then the blank face of bureaucracy.Although they are close to despair this is where with his unexpected arrival on the scene the Right Genie comes in veryhandy. But instrumental though the genie is in pushing for the rights of our hero and the Juveniles he also encourages Jake to look beyond his own immediate problems however important they may seem to a world where children have more pressing needs than his.Parts for Piano Bass Cello Clarinet Drums Flute/Vibraphone Guitar Violin I and Violin II are included.
