This work was written in 2005, prompted by the composer's determination that young members of junior, music school and conservatoire wind ensembles should not be limited to transcriptions for lack of original compositions, especially contemporary ones. The new devices used in the Little Suite are suitable for student players to try out. Indeed, they enjoy them - for instance, purring or whistling into the instrument. Each of the three-or-four-minute movements of this four-movement work can also be performed separately. The titles of the movements are the following: 1. In cheerful mood, 2. Song, 3. Joke, 4. March. This music in modern idiom, full ofinteresting new effects, offers young players an opportunity for enjoyable music-making together, and at the same time prepares them for playing more difficult contemporary works.

Dieses Werk schrieb der Komponist 2005, für Jugendblasorchester. Jeder der vier Sätze dieser Komposition lässt sich auch einzeln vortragen. Die Titel der Sätze sind: 1. Gutgelaunt, 2. Lied, 3. Spass, 4. Marsch. Die in moderner Sprache gehaltene, mit vielen interessanten neuen Effekten bereicherte Musik bietet den jungen Instrumentalisten Möglichkeiten zum heiteren, gutgelaunten Musizieren in der Gemeinschaft und bereitet sie auch auf das Spielen schwierigerer zeitgenössischer Musik vor.

A Little Klezmer Suite was commissioned by Rushton Park High School to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their band programme. They gave the premiere in a virtual online concert in October 2020. Klezmer music originated inthe ‘shtetl’ (villages) and the ghettos of Eastern Europe, where itinerant Jewish troubadours, known as ‘klezmorim’, had performed at celebrations, particularly weddings, since the early Middle Ages. 'Klezmer' is a Yiddish termcombining the Hebrew words ‘kley’ (instrument) and ‘zemer’ (song). The roots of the style are found in secular melodies, popular dances, Jewish ‘hazanut’ (cantorial music) and also the ‘nigunim’, the wordless melodies intoned bythe ‘Hasidim’ (orthodox Jews). The melodies used in the four movements of A Little Klezmer Suite have traditionally been used in Jewish wedding ceremonies and celebrations.

A Little Klezmer Suite werd geschreven in opdracht van de Rushton Park High School ter gelegenheid van het vijftigjarig bestaan van het blaasorkest van de school. De première vond in oktober 2020 plaats tijdens een virtueelonlineconcert. Klezmermuziek is ontstaan in de 'sjtetls' (dorpen) en getto’s van Oost-Europa, waar rondreizende Joodse troubadours, de zogeheten klezmorim, sinds de vroege middeleeuwen optraden bij feesten, met name bruiloften.Klezmer is een Jiddische term waarin de Hebreeuwse woorden 'kley' (instrument) en 'zemer' (lied) zijn gecombineerd. 'Stucke fur die Jugend' intends to carefully introduce the piano pupils to new music. At the time that the piano pieces were created in 1927, Joseph Haas sat on the jury at the Donaueschingen Music Festival together with Paul Hindemith. In his typical manner, the pieces looked forward to the future without burning bridges to the past. The stylistic elements to be mentioned in particular are the sparing use of harmonies which give special emphasis to the linear, the staccato, the arpeggios, and the frequently used progressions of fourths. The influence of his teacher Max Reger can be noticed as well from time to time.The rhythmic energies running through the pieces are of great appeal and educational value.This new edition combines the pieces originally published in two volumes in one volume.

In this suite of four Christmas songs written in 1950, Rowley's Organizing principle is dance rhythm. The first movement sets The Holly and The Ivy in a lilting 6/8 Sicilian rhythm. The second movement combines The Holly and The Ivy with The Cherry Tree Carol in a sharply contrasting minuet. The third movement fughetta setting of The Little Room gives the dancers a breather before the fourth movement's bourree setting for On Christmas Night and The Moon Shines Bright.Twentieth century British composer Alec Rowley was also an Organist, pianist and dedicated teacher. Many of his compositions are miniatures and works appropriate for amateur musicians, though he also gained renownthrough his large-scale works performed at the Promenade Concerts and elsewhere

The “small suite in the old style” was created in September 1992. It is not an outward stylization of early music, but rather an attempt to adopt a kind of Baroque-style thinking. But since we are 200 years older, our thinking is more reflective. That is, our C major sounds sadder today, more nostalgic, our 6/8 Presto more desperate than then, and we do not have the courage to finish the work tonally. Something is not working, although the sounds are always the same.
