Uses: Advent Christmas Scripture: Luke 2 David Angerman and Michael Barrett have combined to provide a new Christmas cantata seeking to blend traditional carols with some contemporary Christian seasonal selections. This simple strophic carol connects the light from the shepherd's lamp at the stable door to the light that Jesus shines on the pathway of the believer. On the final verse it grows to a glorious high point then fades to a prayerful conclusion.

The music serves the poetry in deliberate tones now surging wildly now ebbing gently. Unisons blossom into counterpoint and harmonies signal a wavering between stable hues and changing moods.

Inspired by Geertgen's painting 'Nativity at Night' Candlelight Carol centres around the love of a mother on that first night in the stable. The orchestral material is compatible with both the SATBB and SSAA versions.
