1. The Native Land of Light (for mixed chorus, SATB) 2. Come lift me up (for mixed chorus, SATB -) -) the second movement may be performed by a children's chorus or by the female voices (SSA) from a mixed chorus Programme Note From my very first aquaintance with these Andersen poems, I was deeply moved by the simple, almost naive, yet evocative imagery, with which Andersen realized his visions, images like: The Melody of the Heart, The Poem of Beauty, A Spiritual Hindustan, Fly, Death, over the Sea of Time, fly to Eternal Summer. Along with this childishness Hans Christian Andersen's poetry encompasses enormous - almost Willim Blake-ish - cosmic visions, in theinterpolations between e.g. reaching the Heaven as opposed to you'll find it in a Rosebud, or the juxtaposition of Everyday Life and Eternal Poetry - which become one. Thus the music came to life in my immediate encounter with these words, which almost sang themselves into my Musical Furnace - if you will. Per Norgard.

The name SAM-Klang takes the three voice parts from the arrangements -- Soprano, Alto and Men -- and combines it with the Scandinavian and German words for “sound†to create the portmanteau word “sound together†or “harmony.†The series offers basic and advanced choral repertoire. In addition to new repertoire and new arrangements, you will also find essential parts of the classical German, Scandinavian, French and English SATB repertoire, carefully and considerately reworked for SAM. The arrangements retain the characteristic features of the original movements and have almost the same richness of timbre, resulting in works which sound nearly unchanged to an audience. Piano reductions of all choral movements facilitate rehearsal preparation. The arrangements offer development opportunities for all voice sections, bringing new life and new quality to SAM choir work. SAM-Klang enables youth choirs to gain access to classical choral literature and ensures that mixed choirs who face challenges in finding singers for all male voice parts continue to have access to well-loved repertoire.

This regal a cappella Latin setting begins on a unison pitch that quickly blossoms into resplendent four-part harmony. Sensible voice leading and conservative intervals encourage good intonation even when we briefly shift to the relative minor key. Short in length but packed with worthwhile teaching moments, including occasional optional divisi in both voicings.

Altes Lied by Heinrich Poos for mixed a cappella choir (SSATBB) is a three-part sacred work which addresses a topic that had been frequently taken up in old times as well - love. In this case a tragic story: 'bin tot im Herzen' ['am dead at heart']. The very quiet, short sentences testify to the persona's grief and sorrow in German and Latin, with the pain of the broken heart becoming apparent again and again. Altes Lied is easy to study and practise and, due to its chorale-like structure, will not cause any difficulties for choirs. Poos has written a thought-provoking piece with which you can make your audience fly in thought. Latin & German.
