Complete – Full Score-Epitaph written for a 31-piece ensemble was the masterwork of composer/bassist Charles Mingus. Recorded in 1977 on the album Heavy Weather, Palladium is a jazz fusion staple from the ground-breaking group Weather Report. Wayne Shorter's dynamic composition is orchestrated here for full jazz ensemble with some added touches from master arranger Mike Tomaro. The open solo section allows anyone to be featured.

J'avais noté, à l'époque, une figure rythmique qui me semblait intéressante et puis elle était restée oubliée dans mes carnets, jusqu'au moment où, en octobre 1985 j'ai eu à écrire le répertoire du futur Orchestre National de Jazz. Cette cellule rythmique est donc devenue un des éléments récurrents de cette composition.Aux fins d'analyse, je renvoie le lecteur à l'excellent mémoire de maîtrise soutenu en Sorbonne en 1996 et consacré à cette oeuvre. J'indiquerai seulement l'une des particularités de ce morceau, qui est également l'une de ses difficultés : il s'agit du tutti d'orchestre situé de H1 à H3, conçu comme une improvisation écrite et orchestrée. D'autre part, il n'est pas interdit de voir dans la partie finale, à partir de la lettre L, un hommage au Miles Davis des années 1980.Jazz Lacrymogène a été l'un des titres du répertoire de l'ONJ 86 le plus souvent utilisé, quasiment à chaque concert. From the CD Groove Shop recorded by the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra here is John Clayton's stylish take on this masterful Billy Strayhorn composition. The rhythm section sets up the feel followed by a sax soli chorus and finally the main theme stated by tenor and muted trumpet. Sprinkled with a few twists and turns ample solo space and terrific ensemble writing throughout this is a real gem of a chart.

One of the most recognizable of all Duke Ellington's tunes this distinctive composition combines the styles of Latin and big band jazz. Here's a marvelous arrangement playable by beginning groups. (Includes full performance CD)

Commissioned by the Tennessee All-State Jazz Band this exciting and well-crafted composition features a light and breezy samba style and some marvelous ensemble writing.
