Set for SATB voices, a soprano or tenor soloist, and piano, Goodallââ¬â¢s original text is a promise of constancy from one person to another. Through many kinds of situations and circumstances it is assured that ââ¬ÅWeââ¬â¢ll walk together stride by stride.ââ¬Â The choral parts are homophonic and approachable, the piano part a bit challenging (there is one section which is essentially a beautiful piano solo with the chorus accompanying on a neutral syllable). An uplifting piece suitable for school, community, or professional choruses.

St. Ignatius of Loyolaââ¬â¢s powerful prayer of surrender, set here in Latin, begins, ââ¬ÅReceive, O Lord, all my liberty. Take my memory, understanding, and entire will.ââ¬Â Set for SATB and piano, the music is powerful and assured. The piano punctuates with chords, now calm, now dramatic, and is occasionally silent altogether. First performed in the Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow, in November of 2009 by the musicians of St. Aloysiusââ¬â¢ College, Glasgow.

Commissioned by The Voices Foundation in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the ending of World War II, this most somber and dramatic piece uses texts from David Geraint Jones and William Shakespeare to chronicle the recollections and reflections of a soldier, which are not for the faint of heart. Thinking back on a more carefree past, the ââ¬Åspeakerââ¬Â assures his love that the future will again hold quiet and wonder. However, the price to be paid in between the past and the future is in blood and death. The soldier predicts poppies swaying over him as he lies freed of pain, yes, but also of passion. And he concludes, ââ¬ÅYour peace is bought with mine, if but the echo of your laughter reaches me in hell.ââ¬Â.

Written for the Enchanted Voices CD, this is one of many settings of texts either from the Beatitudes (or springing from them) available from this composer. For soprano solo and SS chorus, organ, cello, and handbells, the music has a light, ethereal feeling. The text is entirely in Latin and begins with a chant-like melody in unison. The cello begins to dialogue with this melody offset by a measure. The soloist is heard next in music that also dialogues with the cello, both a bit more complex than the beginning. All voices take up the solo passage, the cello commenting. The voices go into canon at the half measure, the cello continues with its own melody. The piece returns to unison and ends quietly. Arranged for SATB choir, two keyboards, strings, and optional harp, with soprano, tenor (optional) and baritone soloists, this fresh and unorthodox interpretation reflects on the words of the Latin Mass by juxtaposing them with poems in English. For soprano solo and SATB choir, this movement begins with the choir on the English text by Phineas Fletcher (1633). A 32-measure soprano solo follows, which covers the majority of the English text. The soloist then begins the ââ¬ÅRecordare,ââ¬Â a calm, descending melodic line with the choir singing the opening ââ¬ÅDrop, dropââ¬Â motif as accompaniment. The choir then concludes with the slow, descending lines ââ¬ÅJesu pie, Jesu pie.ââ¬Â Duration 4:04.

Arranged for SATB choir, two keyboards, strings, and optional harp, with soprano, tenor (optional) and baritone soloists, this fresh and unorthodox interpretation reflects on the words of the Latin Mass by juxtaposing them with poems in English. The “Kyrie†uses Francis Quarles’ “Close now thine eyes and rest secure†as the opposing English text. After the choir begins the requiem text in Latin (“Requiem aeternam†through the “Kyrie eleison,â€) the soprano soloist has a 27-measure solo in which the English text appears. Then the solo is repeated over choir accompaniment and the opening Latin text reappears to close the movement. Duration 9:13.
