The cantata Ich liebe den Hochsten von ganzem Gemute (I love the Almighty with all of my spirit) BWV 174 was composed for Whit Monday 1729. It probably belongs to Bach's fourth cycle of cantatas, known as the Picander cycle. Most of the cantata is taken up by the introductory Sinfonia. This is a reworking of the first movement of the famous third Brandenburg Concerto BWV 1048. Bach took the movement almost unaltered and simply added wind parts to strengthen the sound to the nine string parts (three violins, three violas, three violoncelli) and basso continuo - two corni da caccia and two oboes, reinforced by two violins, an oboe da caccia (taille) and a viola. The following movements (aria, recitative, aria) form a distinct contrast with their chamber music scoring (two oboes or one or two string parts with basso continuo). More than usual, in this chorale cantata the hymn is continuously present; it appears as the cantus firmus in four of the six movements and gives the work an overall unity. In addition to the opening chorus and in the closing chorale, it appears in a trio, a rare occurrence in Bach's vocal works, and even in a recitative. The latter is performed by recorders. The rich scoring for winds - besides the recorders it also includes three oboes - characterizes this cantata, which is performed after Christmas and whose text refers back to Christmas and also points to the new year. With Der Wind in den Weiden (The Wind in the Willows), premiered in 2021, Elena Kats-Chernin created the first adaptation of KennethGrahame's famous book for the opera stage. Modelled on classic wind band music or 'Harmoniemusik', this little suite for wind ensemble brings together some of the play's catchiest numbers, introducing the protagonists: the Voices in Nature in the opening Waltz, the cheerful Rat in The River is My Friend, the boastful Toad, imprisoned by the humans, in the lament Oh, poor, poor Mister Toad, Rat, Mole and Badger's search for him in Where Is Toad, and the festive final chorus. All four instruments are shown to advantage, equally and in accordance with their sound characteristics, with the cor anglais, playing throughout in place of the oboe, providing a special colour.

Though clearly inspired and influenced by Jewish experience, they are purely concert pieces, and do not provide any specific liturgical significance.The first movement, Prayer, is a deeply heartfelt plea to the almighty. As Neil W Levin writes, The initial four-note motive in the minor mode, together with its elaboration in the ensuing phrases, sounds as if it might have served as the skeletal model for Max Janowski's (1912-1991) now well-known setting of the High Holyday prayer Avinu Malkenu. This prayer has special meaning in my own spiritual life, as I have been singing it since my childhood. Both Prayer and Janowski's Avinu Malkenu are cantorial in nature, to be sung with heartfelt pathos.The second movement, Supplication (the act of begging humbly), has more angst, almost a sense of urgency as a result of the rhythmic motor in the piano. The third movement, Jewish Song, evokes a quintessentially Eastern-European melancholy. Its falling motives with bent intonation might represent the pain of the Jewish experience.The works were dedicated to Dutch-American cellist Hans Kindler, a highly influential musician of his time, and founder of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. My Concerto for Orchestra (2007) is a twenty-minute work in which different sections of the orchestra, as well as individual solos and duos from within the orchestra, are highlighted as the music unfolds. The work continues my interest in two-movement forms that began with my Cello Concerto (1991), and was later developed in Sortilege (1996) and Symphony (Broken Consort) (2004). Summer days in the mountain was composed in four movements: 1. Pastorale, 2. Au bord du torrent, 3. Le Chant des fôrets, 4. Ronde. These four movements are all well-crafted to captivate the attention of the flautists (with their technicality, tempo and musicality) but also those of the audience. Eugène Bozza won different prizes at the Conservatoire de Paris such as the First Prizes for the Violin, conducting and composition, as well as the Grand Prix de Rome.
