Zoltán Kodály s unaccompanied mixed choruses first appeared in print in 1943 as a collected volume published by the association Magyar Kórus. This collection contained twenty-five works. In 1951, the volume was released again in the author s edition, being expanded with eight new compositions, but without Els áldozás (First Communion). Reprint editions of this collection had been distributed by Editio Musica Budapest until 1972, when a commemorative extended edition of the mixed choruses was issued, edited by Lajos Bárdos. Until now, reprints of this collection with forty-five compositions have been circulated. Péter Erdei carefully compared the printed edition with themanuscripts of the works preserved at the Kodály Archives. As a result of his work, in 2011 we emended a number of misprints, including those that had been inherited since the earliest print. Seventy-five years after the first release, the time has come for Kodály s collected choral works for mixed voices to appear in a completely new, expanded edition. Our collection contains six compositions that were not included in earlier editions: Jövel, Szentlélek eristen (Come, Holy Spirit), Miatyánk (The Lord s Prayer), Miserere, Salló Pista, Semmit ne bánkódjál (Do Not Grieve), ejesztend t köszönt (A Christmas Carol). In addition, two versions - both equally authentic - are published of the work known under the title of Naphimnusz (Canticle of the Sun), due to earlier editions the new release comes with lyrics in Hebrew and English (Adoration), as well as Dénes Szed s Hungarian translation (Napének [Hymn of the Sun]). This is the most complete and most authentic edition of Kodály s mixed choruses to date it is printed in a slightly larger format than previous editions, and it contains new easily-legible music scores and an informative epilogue. With the publication of the first collective, scholarly edition of the a cappella works of Sándor Veress (1907-1992), the publishers were paying a long-standing debt in the Veress centenary year. Volume I contains all the already published works for children s, female and male choirs, together with those of the works of his mature period preserved in manuscript which have attained their definitive form: seven choral cycles or suites, and five single-movement works. The musical concept of the mainly 3- or 4-movement Hungarian folksong suites and cantatas is closely akin to that of the composer s instrumental folksong series written at the same time. Also included in thevolume are a musical setting of Sándor Pet fi s poem Orbán and arrangements of two Swiss folksongs and a children s song of American origin (Mary had a little lamb). Mit der von wissenschaftlichem Anspruch geprägten Veröffentlichung der ersten Sammelausgabe der Chorwerke von Sándor Veress (1907-1992) im Jahre des Veress-Zentenariums 2007 tilgte der Verlag alte Schulden. Der erste Band beinhaltet neben allen schon früher publizierten Kinder-, Frauen- und Männerchören auch als Manuskript erhalten gebliebene, ausgereifte Werke, die über eine endgültige Form verfügen: sieben Chorzyklen bzw. Chorsuiten und fünf einsätzige Werke. Das musikalische Konzept der großteils 3-4-sätzigen Volksliedsuiten und -Kantaten ist eng mit den zur selben Zeit komponierten instrumentalen Volksliedserien des Komponisten verwandt. Weitere Bestandteile desBandes sind die Vertonung des Gedichts Orbán von Sándor Pet fi und die Bearbeitung der zwei schweizerischen Volkslieder sowie eines aus Amerika stammenden Kinderliedes (Mary Had a Little Lamb).

Frigyes Hidas (1928-2007) was the most prolific Hungarian composer for wind ensembles, and his works are the most often performed. His worldwide popularity is based on works such as Balettzene (Ballet music), Vidam zene (Cheerful music), El nem tancolt balett (Undanced ballet), Requiem and Save the Sea. His folk song suites, which are enormously popular in his homeland, are fine examples of Hidas' mature style in the genre of folk song arrangements. The first suite works up nine folk songs of differing character and atmosphere, while the second, with its recurrent structure, makes use of five melodies, creating a modern harmonic environment around them and thereby highlighting even more the beauty of the melodies. To perform these works effectively, ample technique is required, as well as an ability to shape the music freely. Highly recommended for ensembles with an interest in Hungarian wind music and folklore.
