Jazz 'Bones The World of Jazz Trombone This book is a masterpiece! Kurt Dietrich has already established his reputation as an authority on jazz with his excellent book on the trombonists of the Duke Ellington orchestra, Duke's 'Bones, Ellington's Great Trombonists. His work in this wonderful collection of history, anecdotes, and stories is extremely well researched and documented. He traces the history of jazz trombone from its early inception through the big band era, bebop, new music, european, world music, up to the present. One of the strengths of this book is his inclusion of many lesser-know trombonists - some of whom were monsters albeit overlooked. Although a serious document, jazz 'bones is very enjoyable reading. Jazz 'bones will certainly take its place alongside the best volumes on music history and is without question required reading for all trombonists and lovers of jazz. Bravo, Kurt Dietrich!
