The Bennett Band Books, published in four volumes starting in 1923, were used to teach literally millions of young band musicians in the middle of the twentieth century the march form and style. The pieces utilized in this book are: Activity, Summit, Success, Project, Courage, Mister Joe, Genius, Improvement, At Sight, Little Rastus, Laurel and Aline. These delightful marches, composed by famous march composer Henry Fillmore using the pseudonym Harold Bennett, have been given new life by arranger Larry Clark. The original essence of these marches is retained and only the instrumentation and some range issues have been altered to fit the needs of today’s developing bands. This collection includes twelve of the Bennett marches along with a helpful march warm-up section composed by Larry Clark to help you teach the march form and style to young students. There is the added benefit of a full recording of each march performed by a professional band on the CD that is included in the conductor’s score. This is a valuable collection for any level band to use for marches at contest/festival performance or for sight-reading purposes.

Earthrise is the name of an iconic NASA photograph, taken on December 24, 1968 from the Apollo 8 spacecraft while orbiting the Moon. Composer Steven Pyter depicts this historical event with the evocative tone poem for developing bands. A flute solo (cued in other instruments if needed) floats above rich sonorities. The flute's melody is passed around the band and eventually is accompanied by sparkling aleatoric woodwinds. The Apollo 8 spacecraft crests the moon's horizon and planet Earth is visible in the vastness of space. Earthrise is correlated with Tradition of Excellence Book 2, page 34.

The Command Performance For Beginning Band book contains 14 complete band arrangements designed to be playable by students who have completed the first few lessons of their beginning band method book, and are written using the first 6 notes learned. Inside the conductor score book is a CD accompaniment for all 14 arrangements. Each of the background accompaniments has been created using MIDI technology. The use of synthesizer voices and programmed drum patterns allows the student the opportunity to perform along with sounds and rhythms they are familiar with, but which are not generally associated with young band music. Because many of the background parts necessary for more advanced music is handled by the accompaniment recording, all instruments have the chance to play melodic and interesting material. The recordings also provides a mature pitch to match which is extremely helpful in developing listening skills. We are sure you will discover many great advantages each time you have your students pull out their books. CONTENTS: * Big Beat Boogie * Starship Journey * Brave New World * Buena Suerte * Sir Lancelot * Rock Out * America * When the Saints Go Marchin' In * A Christmas Medley * Two Favorite Carols * Folk Song Rhapsody * Kum Ba Yah * Jingle Bells * Rock Star *.
