As director of the Bavarian Radio Choir, Howard Arman has been actively engaged with international Christmas carols through various Christmas-related CD productions in the past years. This has resulted in a number of original arrangements for four- to eight-part mixed choir a cappella, shedding new light on well-known classics such as O du frohliche [O, you joyful], Stille Nacht [Silent Night] and Lasst uns froh und munter sein [Let us be happy and cheerful]. The first volume includes five Christmas carols from the German-speaking regions. They range from simple but harmonically intriguing settings such as Lieb Nachtigall, wach auf [Dear nightingale, wake up] to eight-part sound paintings with bell-like chimes as in O du frohliche and classical double choir settings such as Resonet in laudibus. The second volume includes five Christmas spirituals with English texts, forming a contrast to the solemn and festive character of the first. The choir can prove its swing and jazz qualities here; the stirring arrangements are a gain for classical Christmas concerts, too. Following the tradition of the spiritual, some settings also require soloists, which can, however, also be recruited from the choir if adequate singers are available. The first piece combines the spirituals It's a Birthday and Wasn't That a Mighty Day to form a medley, Ain't That a Rockin' gives a moment of tranquility before the likewise rousing spirituals Mary Had a Baby and Little David conclude the volume. In both volumes, Howard Arman provides a short preface in German and English, explaining the background of each piece and giving advice on performance.

In a true performance piece, Igudesman starts us off, appropriately, with Jingle Bells, but a Jingle Bells heard through his ears. This polite opening quickly morphs into an Igudesman-style Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies, followed by other surprises of sacred and secular bent. His opening note, Kind of Christmassy with a touch of Hannukah, is apt, as his (recommended) sung We Wish You a Merry Christmas leads directly into I Have a Little Dreidel. Timid violinists are advised to stick with the generic Silent Night (which, surprisingly, also makes an appearance here, along with Auld Lang Syne). True performers of advanced skills will want to work this oddity into their holiday program this year. Christmas Confusion is challenging for both players, but will delight audiences with surprising quotes from familiar materials.

As the title suggests, this ‘collage’ contains Veni Emmanuel, I lest né le divin Enfant, Ding Dong! Merrily on High and In Dulci Jubilo. Although this piece is written in an easy and flexible band grade 2 format, all melodies arealternating and combined in an ingenious way. It’s a challenging piece full of and joy and surprises!

Zoals de titel al zegt, bestaat deze muzikale collage uit kerstliedjes en wel Veni Emmanuel, Il est né le divin Enfant, Ding Dong! Merrily on High en In Dulci Jubilo. Hoewel het stuk is geschreven binnen een format voor graad 2 eenvoudig en voor flexibele bezetting wisselen de melodieën elkaar af en worden ze op ingenieuze wijze met elkaar gecombineerd. Het is een uitdagende medley vol verrassingen en speelplezier!

Wie der Titel schon andeutet, enthält diese Collage“ die Lieder Veni, veni, Emmanuel, Il est né le divin enfant, Ding Dong! Merrily on High und In dulci jubilo. Obwohl das Stück leicht ist und sich für eine variable Besetzung(Schwierigkeitsgrad 2) eignet, wechseln sich alle Stimmen ab und werden auf raffinierte Art und Weise miteinander kombiniert. Es ist ein anspruchsvolles Stück voller Freude und Überraschungen!

Comme le suggère le titre, ce medley contient plusieurs chants de Noël comme Veni Emmanuel, Il est né le divin Enfant, Ding Dong Merrily on High et In Dulci Jubilo. Bien que cette œuvre soit écrite pour orchestred’harmonie dans un format simple et flexible de niveau 2, toutes les mélodies sont alternées et combinées de manière ingénieuse. Un morceau exigeant rempli de joie et de surprises !

Nonostante il lavoro sia rivolto a bande a strumentazione variabile di livello 2, le melodie si alternano e si combinano in modo assai complesso, inusuale e stimolante. Hoewel de Engelsen een lange traditie kennen in het zingen van carols zijn veel van de melodieen die er worden gezongen afkomstig van het Europese vasteland - of uit Amerika. Desondanks heeft Philip Sparke een gevarieerde selectievan Engelse melodieen kunnen samenstellen voor dit prachtige 'Festival of Carols' - dat zowel met als zonder koor kan worden uitgevoerd.

Weihnachten, wie es heute in England gefeiert wird, ist eine relativ junge Tradition aus dem 19, Jahrhundert, die der deutsche Ehemann von Konigin Victoria mit in seine neue Heimat brachte. Viele gebrauchliche Weihnachtslieder stammen ebenfalls nichtaus England. Philip Sparke gelang es jedoch, eine abwechslungsreiche Sammlung von Liedern aus seiner Heimat zu diesem schonen englischen Weihnachtslieder-Festival zu formen.Die optional einsetzbaren Chorstimmen sind unter der Artikelnummer AMP227-050 separat erhaltlich.

<< La plupart des traditions de Noel en Angleterre sont relativement recentes. Montee sur le trone en 1837, la reine Victoria (nee de Hanovre) regnera jusqu'a sa mort en 1901. En 1840, elle epousa son cousin, le prince Albert de Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha. Leprince consort, originaire d'Allemagne, importa bon nombre de traditions de Noel allemandes au Royaume-Uni. Ainsi, il fit decouvrir aux Anglais la coutume du sapin et les cartes de Noel, entre autres, contribuant largement au Noel typiquement anglaistel que nous le connaissons aujourd'hui.Bien que les chants de Noel font l'objet d'une longue tradition en Angleterre, de nombreuses melodies que nous chantons proviennent ducontinent europeen ou des Etats-Unis. Je savais bien que le celebrissimeSilent Night (Douce nuit) etait d'origine autrichienne et que Hark, the Herald Angels Sing (Ecoutez le chant des Anges) etait d'origine allemande. Pourtant, quelle ne fut pas ma surprise d'apprendre qu'Away in a Manger (Sur la paillefraiche) ou encore We Three Kings nous venaient des Etats-Unis et que Ding, Dong Merrily on High etait un noel d'origine francaise. Quoiqu'il en soit, j'ai reussi a constituer un canevas de melodies anglaises pour realiser cefestival de chants de Noel. >>Philip SparkeRemarques sur l'interpretation : Cet arrangement est adapte pour une interpretation avec ou sans Chœur.
