La genèse de Chopin Polonaise brillante opus 22 conduit à sa jeunesse à Varsovie et à des années de ses premiers voyages comme un virtuose. Conçu comme un morceau de concert avec orchestre, il occupe une place particulière parmi les compositions polonaise de Chopin. Toutefois, selon la tradition, le travail a toujours été interprétée comme un morceau solo extrêmement efficace. Puisque aucun autographe n'a survécu, les diverses épreuves premières sont utilisés comme sources. Des comparaisons montrent que la première édition anglaise doit reposer sur le manuscrit autographe de Chopin. La présente édition de nouvelle taux donc cette édition anglaise plus fortement que d'habitude. Ainsi, les nombreux écarts et omissions dans l'édition définitive française qui est généralement considérée comme la plus importante source peuvent être clarifiées et complétées. This volume presents easy pieces for piano by great virtuosos. It unites the two greatest, and perhaps best-known, pianists of the 19th century, Frédéric Chopin and Franz Liszt. The technical requirements of these works are very moderate without muting the stylistic characteristics of these two composers. The ability to play an original composition by Liszt in the first years of lessons can be very motivating for the piano student. Also featured in this collection are works by the virtuoso Ferdinand Hiller, to whom Robert Schumann dedicated his Piano Concerto. As in many of the works by Liszt and Chopin, Hiller's works are frequently reminiscent of folk music. Il s?agit d?une sorte de fantaisie à la manière d?une polonaise, que j?appellerais Polonaise». On comprend très bien l?hésitation de Chopin pour son titre.

En effet, l?oeuvre débute comme une fière polonaise, puis survient un passage au cours duquel l?octave la est frappée impitoyablement à plus de trente reprises.

Presque moderne, cette partie conduit à une mazurka, semblant appartenir à un autre monde, détaché de la réalité. Regarded as the highlight among Chopin's polonaises, the great Polonaise in A flat major Op. 53 has also become known as 'octave polonaise' because of the distinctive octave passages in the middle section. As was customary at that time, the work was published in a German, English and French first edition each. There also exists an autograph which served as an engraver's copy for the German first edition. Some personal copies of Chopin pupils occasionally contain entries of the composer, thus providing additional information, e.g. original fingerings. Unfortunately, all three first editions contain a different, not always reliable text. The new edition of Wiener Urtext Edition is based substantially on the autograph and the - to a large extent - carefully revised German first edition, yet also takes some variants of the French first edition into account which give the impression of a last-hand version. The problems with regard to the sources and transmission are explained in detail in the preface and the critical notes. Variants containing a specific component with regard to the performance practice are commented on in the notes on interpretation. / Piano
