The Chester Missa Brevis was written for the choir of Chester Cathedral in 2013 and is a tentative homage to Benjamin Britten in his centenary year. All the movements are thematically related and the musical ideas culminate and are more plainly stated in the Agnus Dei. Despite being called Missa Brevis the work has a grand ‘big building’ feel to it whist also aiming to be practical enough in terms of length to serve a regular cathedral liturgy.

Written in 2009 for Andrew Millington and the Choir of Exeter Cathedral. Unaccompanied SATB choir.
'Written for Exeter Cathedral and already in the repertoire of other cathedral choirs, this straightforwardly melodic, tonal setting does not divide the voices and could be learnt and sung enjoyably by any church choir with, for example, the Byrd Mass for Four Voices in its repertoire. Although there are no soloists, the composer frequently usesindividual choir sections for brief quasi-solo passages, contrasting with full SATB. The Osannas at the end of Sanctus and Benedictus will sound breathtaking in a resonant acoustic.' - Sunday by Sunday

For soprano and baritone soloists, children's choir, adult choir, and orchestra or chamber ensemble The text is that of a standard Latin Missa brevis, to which several relevant English poetic texts have been added. The first and last of these are taken from Bishop Thomas Ken's renowned morning and evening hymns for the scholars of Winchester College. They give the whole work the framework of a complete day, from waking to sleeping, within which other texts and moods appear like events in that day or landmarks in a life. Vocal scores are available on sale or on hire from the publisher. Instrumental material is available on hire from the publisher.
