Adoration is a tuneful, joyous piece that students will love to play. Every section of the young orchestra gets a chance to shine in this well-written piece. While it has good audience appeal, it is designed to allow the teacher to focus on sound production, ensemble playing, and tuning.Adoration is an upbeat piece with which I had a lot of fun writing and then preparing with my students. While it has good audience appeal, it is designed to allow the teacher to focus on sound production, ensemble playing and tuning. The piece is straightforward with no hidden traps. While there is a clear change of mood in the middle section, the pulse should remain constant and steady. In order to properly accomplish the accents sprinkled throughout the piece, bows must be “set†on the strings, never dropped.Thank you for using this piece.—Bud Woodruff.

Zoltán Kodály s unaccompanied mixed choruses first appeared in print in 1943 as a collected volume published by the association Magyar Kórus. This collection contained twenty-five works. In 1951, the volume was released again in the author s edition, being expanded with eight new compositions, but without Els áldozás (First Communion). Reprint editions of this collection had been distributed by Editio Musica Budapest until 1972, when a commemorative extended edition of the mixed choruses was issued, edited by Lajos Bárdos. Until now, reprints of this collection with forty-five compositions have been circulated. Péter Erdei carefully compared the printed edition with themanuscripts of the works preserved at the Kodály Archives. As a result of his work, in 2011 we emended a number of misprints, including those that had been inherited since the earliest print. Seventy-five years after the first release, the time has come for Kodály s collected choral works for mixed voices to appear in a completely new, expanded edition. Our collection contains six compositions that were not included in earlier editions: Jövel, Szentlélek eristen (Come, Holy Spirit), Miatyánk (The Lord s Prayer), Miserere, Salló Pista, Semmit ne bánkódjál (Do Not Grieve), ejesztend t köszönt (A Christmas Carol). In addition, two versions - both equally authentic - are published of the work known under the title of Naphimnusz (Canticle of the Sun), due to earlier editions the new release comes with lyrics in Hebrew and English (Adoration), as well as Dénes Szed s Hungarian translation (Napének [Hymn of the Sun]). This is the most complete and most authentic edition of Kodály s mixed choruses to date it is printed in a slightly larger format than previous editions, and it contains new easily-legible music scores and an informative epilogue. This significant anthem is an epic declaration of worship and devotion. From the opening piano arpeggios, the piece announces itself as bold and expressive. Chords define the texture of the main theme and resonate with fulfilling delivery in a quote from Holy, Holy, Holy. Moving steadily to a statement from Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee, craftsmanship is evident in every measure of the ebullient 12/8 meter. The anthem ends with a dizzying climax of voices, instruments and truth. This is a very well known and beloved tune dating from the time of Henry the VIII in Britain. Therefore, there are lots of slight variations in how people have learned this tune. Please be very careful to make sure all singers agree on the notes actually written. This will make the singers the listeners much more comfortable with your performance. The consonant combination th is very difficult for listeners to hear. Singers should work diligently to be very intentional to articulate the text throughout. The verses are all built in two similar four-measure phrases. Even though the destinations are different, both phrases end with echo words. Therefore, please be careful to sing the second syllable softer than the first. For example,sleep-ing, keep-ing, in the verses. In the repeated refrains, please sing Ma-ry in the same way; it too is an echo word. To bring laud is to bring praise and adoration. A mean estate does not equal angry; it refers to a place of poverty. Part of the reason this is such a well-known and beloved tune is that it is very singable and very lovely. Therefore, when you sing it, always work toward making your very best sound and very best face. You will enjoy your performance more and so will your listeners. This is a very well known and beloved tune dating from the time of Henry the VIII in Britain. From the musical, 'Sing Christmas!' This popular hymn text is a paraphrase of The Song of Mary, recorded in Luke 1. The message calls for Christians to proclaim the greatness of the Lord, the greatness of his name, the greatness of his might, and the greatness of his word, in each of the four stanzas. Equally effective with piano accompaniment or full orchestra, this setting originally appeared in Mary McDonald and Joel Raney's best-selling Christmas musical, Sing Christmas! code number 8901.

The Ave verum directs our gaze towards Christ crucified on the cross for us in the form of a prayer of adoration. In this setting, a sound pulsates at first which can be described as gently shining. A syncopated motif introduces an interruption with the note c sharp which gradually allows the tension to increase. The phrase cujus latus perforatum [from whose pierced side] is penetrated by the cry of a solo soprano. The choir breaks off abruptly. The world holds its breath. Whilst the pulsating sonority has an increasingly inexorable character up to this point, from now onwards it appears in the light of an unending confidence and affectionate prayer of adoration. The concluding modal sequences of sounds intensify the impression of devotion and peace.

O Salutaris Hostia is one of Eriks Ešenvalds' most popular pieces. Originally written for female voices, the composer later created a version for full choir on which this arrangement is based. It has a gentle meditation with the two soloists drifting across the soft band accompaniment, alternately echoing and imitating each other or joining together in thirds. The effect is quietly ecstatic, a brief moment of adoration and wonderment. This arrangement can be played with either two cornets or two euphoniums as soloists as the accompaniment works just as effectively with either.
