The music recalls a moment from the history of Scotland
- the visit of Bonnie Prince Charlie to Traquair House
in the Autumn of 1745.
The Prince was gathering support for his attempt to
take the throne of Great Britain. On his departure, the
ornamental Bear Gates were closed, and the Earl
declared they would not be opened again until a Stuart
monarch, crowned in London, returned.
They were not to know that the Jacobite cause would be
lost at Culloden just a few months later.
