La quadriglia deriva da danze contadine originatesi in
Francia a partire dal XVII secolo e poi sviluppatesi,
in maniera differenziata, in molti paesi
dell'Occidente. Viene chiamata anche "quadriglia
comandata", poiché è d'obbligo la presenza del
direttore di figura, il quale, durante il ballo,
comanda ai ballerini i passi e le figure da eseguire.
