Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed his famous concerto
for clarinet in 1791. It was not intended for the
standard clarinet in A, but for the rare basset
clarinet. As the autograph of the concerto is lost and
the publication of the concerto only exists in a
version arranged for the standard clarinet, efforts are
being made to reconstruct the original text. Such a
reconstructed version as well as the history of the
concerto and the basset clarinet are the subject of
this contribution.
