"When the Saints Go Marching In" is an Amercian gospel
hymn. The song is sometimes still performed as a slow
tempo spiritual, however since the middle of the 20th
century is has increasingly been popular as a "hot"
jazz number. This song is particularly associated with
the home of Jazz, New Orleans. In this city the song is
traditionally used as a funeral march at "Jazz
funerals" - the band plays the tune as a slow lamentful
