The duration of this guitar piece called Adelita is around 1 minute 40 seconds. The key signature starts in E minor for the opening 8 bars, and modulates into the parallel major key of E major, finally it returns to the original minor key for the last 8 bars. The piece features interesting ornamentations such as mordents. The time signature is 3/4 and the tempo is moderato.

Tarrega was born in Villareal, in the province of Castellón, Spain. His father played the guitar, and was skilled in the Spanish style called flamenco. Tarrega became partially blind after becoming sick with an infection. He later had guitar lessons with Julián Arcas, his father also insisted that he learn the piano. At the age of 22 Tarrega entered into the music conservatory in Madrid, under the sponsorship of a wealthy merchant. He was well instructed in the theory of music, harmony, and composition.
