In the Aguado's time, tablature was still the notation of choice for Spanish guitarists, Aguado adopted the new staff notation being used by Frederico Moretti and his followers like Fernando Sor. He published a guitar tutor "Escuela de Guitarra" in Madrid, this was later translated into French. In 1825 Aguado left for Paris where he became successful as a teacher.
