"Home on the Range" is a song based on a poem by Dr.
Brewster M. Higley (1823–1911) who was from Smith
County, Kansas. The poem, written in the early 1870s
was originally called "My Western Home". It is the
state song of Kansas today. Higley's friend Daniel E.
Kelley (1845–1905) wrote the music. The song spread
across the United States as settlers and cowboys
adopted it.
