Composer's Notes: The last few years I have become increasingly involved in some peculiar mathematical formulas called “fractalsâ€. These formulas, used in the fast growing field of “Chaos theoryâ€, are relatively simple, but they generate fascinating and surprisingly “organic†patterns when shown graphically on a computer screen, or played as music. One should think that such a mathematical approach would lead to sterile and 'theoretical' music. The sound world of Stonewave, however, is not one you would associate with math books. The steady, insistent pulse, and the use of sequences put squarely up against each other or divided by long rests suggest an invisible ritual. A ritual for what? Well then, let it be a ritual for the exorcism of some 'evil spirits' which now ride our part of the world under the name of Liberalism, making people the servants of the Market Forces instead of vice versa. Stonewave is therefore an incantation, as it seems that only divine forces can save European culture from a political system that proclaims the Jungle Law as the guiding principle in social and cultural life. Rolf Wallin.

Keystone tells the story of the Odeon of Vriezenveen, a town in the Netherlands. “Odeon†is the name of ancient Greek and Roman buildings used for activities such as singing, music and poetry. This was the name chosen in 1998 by several members of the 'Vriezenveense Harmonie' for the cultural ceter they decided to have built. The piece starts slowly with the bass instruments, then speeds up in a counterpoint passage where the main motif moves from one set of instruments to another. After a slow section, the music speeds up again to reach a majestic chorale symbolising the splendid Odeon.

No Stone Could Hold Him is a spirited witness to the ministry, passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus, the Rock of our Salvation. Written by celebrated composer Lloyd Larson, this powerful work is filled with scripture-based images of Jesus as A Rock in a Weary Land, even when tempted by Satan to turn these stones to food; as the Solid Rock on which we stand through Winds of Change and Shifting Sand; as Jerusalem's triumphant King who commands the rocks to keep silent; as the Cornerstone of our faith, betrayed and crucified; and as the risen Savior whom no stone could hold in the tomb. Inspired by these images, the music is bold and enlivening with rousing original music alongside energetic spirituals and gospel songs. This dramatic work is an exceptional choice for Easter worship with its seven choruses and options for duets and solos. It can also be performed during the Lenten season or Holy Week by omitting the final chorus.
