Philip Glass has produced ten symphonies so far the ones immediately preceding this one inspired by sources as diverse as Allen Ginsberg poetry Aboriginal writings and Native American song. Symphony No 8 however has noreferences to non-musical materials and takes as its subject according to Glass âthe language of music itselfâ.The three-movement work does not conform to classical symphonic form with an extended twenty-minute first movement a slow passacaglia for the second movement and a short dense theme joined by a counter theme then ending with an extended cadence to complete the work in the third movement. Symphony No 8 was commissioned by the BrucknerOrchester Linz under the direction of Dennis Russell Davis.American composer Philip Glass is widely known as one of the most celebrated influential and prolific of the modern composers. He is frequently referred to as aminimalist though he prefers to call himself a composer of âmusic with repetitive structures.â His operas among them the renowned Einstein On The Beach are performed across the globe and he has created work for small andlarge ensembles film and experimental theatre and founded his own performing group The Philip Glass Ensemble.

With 2 violino concertato-Haydn's Symphony No.8 is the final piece in his tripty...(+)
With 2 violino concertato-Haydn's Symphony No.8 is the final piece in his triptych on the times of the day consisting of the symphonies Le Matin Le Midi and Le Soir (Hoboken I:6-8). The cycle originated in 1761 on a commission from Haydn's patron Prince Anton Esterházy. Whether the Prince was hoping for a counterpart to Vivaldi's famous concertos on the four seasons or pursued a different idea can no longer be determined. It was doubtless the purpose of these concertante symphonies to present to a select audience the Prince's chamber ensemble which had been assembled or expanded that spring as well as its new conductor. The pieces are laid out on a large scale full of pomp andsplendour and the scoring at times divided into thirteen separate parts offers virtually every player an opportunity to display his prowess as a soloist. At that time the Esterházy ensemble was made up of six or seven players of the violin or viola (the seventh was actually retained as a flautist) one player each of the violoncello and violone two oboists doubling on flute two horn players and a bassoonist. This listing includes Haydn himself who conducted the ensemble from the first violinist's desk. Contrary to a widely held belief there was no harpsichord. Indeed the only genres that employed a keyboard instrument at that time in the Viennese area were vocal - namely operas cantatas and church music.Urtext from Joseph Haydn WerkeFull score & parts (BA4673) available for sale

for Flute Orchestra. Par SCHUBERT FRANZ. Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 8 in B minor is more commonly referred to as the 'Unfinished Symphony.' Unlike most symphonies of that time, the symphony only consists of two movements, of which the Allegro moderato is the first movement. To this day it is disputed as to why Schubert never completed the work, but nevertheless, it is one of his most beloved compositions. / Date parution : 2022-11-29/ Répertoire / Ensemble de Flûtes

Aside from a few sombre moments the symphony is optimistic in mood and displays Vaughan Williams's love for exotic and colourful combinations of instruments with a percussion sections that he said employs 'all the 'phones and 'spiels known to the composer'. Symphony No. 8 for Orchestra (2011) by Per Nørgård. Premiered on September 19 2013 by the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and John Storgårds. Programme note: The first movement opens with sculptural rising and falling scales. Visually the sound may call to mind say spirals or ziggurats (temple towers). Brisk music leads to the climax of the movement. The second movement is slow and sensually melodious and has three interludes of greater timbral melodic action. The third movement begins very restlessly but towards the climax thetempo gradually begins to accelerate. An oscillating pianissimo murmur ends the movement – and the symphony. Symphony no. 8 is commissioned by Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and is besides the Orchestra dedicated to the conductor John Storgårds. Per Nørgård (2012)

In G Major-The performance material available up till now for Dvorák?s sun-filled cheerful Symphony No.8 has been notorious for its myriad mistakes. The challenge of correcting it has now been taken over by the editor Jonathan Del Mar. He has taken into account the engraver?s copy which was actually discovered in a rubbish bin at Novello?s in 1964. Its title page bears the words ?Copied from my original manuscript? in Dvorák?s hand. This source proves that many of the readings contained in the first edition and faithfully adopted in all subsequent editions were simply slips of the copyist?s pen. This new edition with score and orchestral parts in an enlarged format is accompanied bya detailed Critical Commentary on the sources and alternative readings. It also contains important facsimile pages to clarify problematical readings.Score and orchestral parts in an enlarged formatInformative Foreword (Eng/Cz/Ger) and Critical Commentary (Eng) on sources and alternative readingsWith facsimile pages

Symphony No. 8 In G Major Op. 88. With its Bohemian echoes and thematic diversity, Symphony No. 8 enjoys a special status among lovers of Antonín Dvorák's music.
For a long time, the performance material for this work has been notorious for its myriad mistakes. For his edition of Dvorák's 8th Symphony, editor Jonathan Del Mar was therefore faced with the task of making comprehensive corrections. He has taken into account the engraver?s copy, which was actually discovered in a trash bin at Novello?s in 1964. Its title page bears the words ?Copied from my original manuscript? in Dvorák?s hand. This source proves that many of the readings contained in the first edition and faithfully adopted in all subsequent editions, were simply slips of the copyist?s pen.
This study score edition is complemented by the full score and orchestral parts (BA10418).
