Bartók probably first played pieces by Domenico Scarlatti in public in 1911. During the next two decades he featured them in his piano recitals more than 60 times. His dedication to Italian and French Baroque music is also illustrated by the fact that, in 1920, he signed a contract with the Budapest publisher Rozsnyai to edit seven volumes of Baroque keyboard music. His plan was to select compositions by Couperin and Rameau in addition to pieces by Scarlatti, but during the 1920s it ended up being only two volumes of Couperin and another two comprising ten compositions by Scarlatti. In editing these masterpieces, Bartók's aim was primarily to counterbalance or evenovershadow the works by the Mendelssohn-Schumann epigones used in primary and secondary music education. The present, single-volume collection comprises Bartók's two Scarlatti volumes, complete with an editorial preface, his detailed performing instructions, and his commentary. The editor recommends these compositions for pianists with at least five years' experience, and gives practical recommendations for the grouping of individual items to form charming sonatina-like sets of pieces.

“Thes e real masterpieces, even if only a few minutes long, are of tremendous melodiousness and expressiveness!”, Franz Schubert said about Friedrich Kuhlau's sonatinas. The four Sonatinas Op. 88 were written in 1827, i.e. during Friedrich Kuhlau's middle creative period, even before the great success of the opera “Elfenhügel.&r dquo; and the year of Beethoven's death. All four works contain beautiful melodic ideas, but Sonatina Op. 88 No. 3 with its minor tonality, its free treatment of form and tempo in the first movement and the lively last movement is something special. Of medium difficulty, this sonatina is great fun to play. This edition is accompanied by a preface and “Teaching Notes” by Monika Twelsiek. It is part of the new Schott Student Edition series which offers varied literature at five different levels of difficulty, from 1 (easy) to 5 (difficult), for instrumental lessons. Do nizetti's Lucrezia Borgia was premiered at Milan's Teatro alla Scala on 26 December 1833 and is considered one of the composer's most important and innovative operas of the 1830s. Although, because of censorship issues, particularly in the south of Italy, it was initially slow to become popular, by the late 1830s it had become one of the composer's most popular operas, both in Italy and abroad, and remained an essential part of the composer's oeuvre until at least the end of the nineteenth century. Remarkable for its daring subject matter (with an unconventional, forceful heroine), it is also renowned for its challenging mixture of the comic and the tragic, something very unusual at the time and clearly an important influence on Giuseppe Verdi's middle period masterpieces. The present reduction for voice and piano derives from the critical edition of the score, recently published in this catalog: is based on Donizetti's autograph manuscript (housed in the Ricordi Archives in Milan), on the libretto for the premiere, on several printed editions of voice and piano, and on numerous additional scores of the period. It presents for the first time all the numerous additions that the composer made to the score over the course of ten years: a fascinating record of his changing music dramatic attitudes during this period. There is also a synthetic historical reconstruction of the genesis of the opera and of the description of the Sources as well as a selection of most interest to singers of Critical Commentary Notes.

This book is to some extent a continuation of Dr. Kiss's 2015 textbook A Practical Approach to Harmony: From the Birth of Polyphony to the Baroque Era. The aim of this book is to support conservatory students (aged 14-22) and their teachers with a collection of carefully selected material from which to learn the necessary musical concepts and practical knowledge of music theory, form, and harmony. The target era is the Viennese Classical period, which spans just under one hundred years between around 1730 and 1830. The focus ison the greatest representatives of their time: Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. The book concentrates on the practical aspects of studying music theory, form, and harmony. This means that all musical concepts become practical knowledge and are integrated into skills that a cultured musician needs (score reading, writing, singing or playing, composing, memorizing, transposing, arranging, analyzing, and so on). The book consists of ten units grouped into three levels of difficulty: Basic (units 1 to 5), Intermediate (units 6 to 8), and Advanced (units 9 and 10). The structure of each unit is identical: 1. Listening and Analysis Analysis of selected compositions based on the following considerations: the structure of melody, rhythm, harmony, tonality, instrumentation, and form. 2. Theory and Practice Learning theoretical concepts from masterpieces, and applying them to singing, playing, transposing, piano reduction writing, improvising, composing, and analyzing. 3. Keyboard Harmony Creative activities such as: writing and realizing figured basses; harmonizing melodies; and playing, composing, and transposing chord progressions. 4. Ear Training Harmonic singing exercises and notating chords and complex musical excerpts after listening to them. 5. Appendix The Appendix of each unit contains the solutions to the tasks in that unit.

This dashing work in one of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's more frequently heard German Dances (K. 605, No. 3), which he specifically titled The Sleigh Ride. The composition was originally written during the last year of Mozart's life in 1791. That year was one of his more productive years, composing other well known masterpieces such as The Magic Flute, Piano Concerto in B-Flat Major, The Concerto for Clarinet, and his very last composition, the Requiem which he finished only twelve of the fifteen sections before his death. German Dance captures the wonderful melodies, lively rhythms, and ingenious colors of Mozart's style. This is a charming arrangement with three separate bell parts bringing forth the festive sound of ringing sleigh bells. Arranged to re-create classical scoring, this joyful programmatic piece will be a favorite with young musicians and audiences alike.
