Beethoven's Symphony No. 4 In B Flat Op. 60 was composed in 1806 a very productive year for the composer during which he wrote numerous other great works such as the 4th Piano Concerto and theViolin Concerto. Today this work is unjustly overshadowed by its famous neighbours the ?Eroica? and the 5th Symphony although it was one of Beethoven?s best-loved and most often performed works throughout the19th century. The Henle Urtext edition features a preface by the editor Bathia Churgin. This edition is based on the musical text of the Beethoven Complete Edition and continues the series of study editions ofBeethoven symphonies in a convenient format.

Alongside Bach’s Solo Suites a further highlight for cellists are Beethoven’s five Cello Sonatas. They were published between 1797 and 1817 and thus cover a large part of Beethoven’s compositional lifetime mirroring important stages of his musical development. This revised edition incorporates the findings contained in the critical report of the Beethoven Complete Edition which was compiled at the same time. The Urtext edition hasbeen re-engraved but the proven page layout of the previous edition has been preserved. The renowned cellist David Geringas provided completely new fingerings and bowings for the cello part which also has excellent page turns.An unmarked Urtext part is also included.

Around 1800 Beethoven seems to have completely distanced himself from chamber music for wind. In letters to his publisher we read that he did not have any particular regard for his Septet op. 20 and the Sextet op. 71; furthermore he did not write any new works for wind ensembles.By contrast he ennobled his Trio op. 87 originally for two oboes and cor anglais by making an additional version for two violins and viola. This charming work ispublished following the Urtext in the Beethoven Complete Edition and is a welcome addition to the repertoire for these instruments for which a great deal has not otherwise been composed.

Coriolan Ouverture op. 62-Urtext edition study score for Ludwig Van Beethoven's Coriolan Overture Op.62.Beethoven's Coriolan Overture Op.62 was inspired by the tragic legend of the Ancient Romanhero Coriolanus.This story enjoyed popularity in the early 1800s as the subject of a play by the Austrian writer Heinrich Joseph von Collin. By the time that Beethoven composed this overture in 1807 however the playhad long since been taken off the programme. Apparently it no longer mattered to the composer whether his music was performed in conjunction with the play or not and he thus wrote one of the earliest and to-date best-lovedconcert overtures in musical history.The text of the Beethoven Complete edition was carefully reviewed for this Henle Urtext study edition and there is a new preface.
