Enrique Granados (1867-1916), un des plus grands compositeurs du XXe siècle l'Espagne, était un pianiste fine et un enseignant qui a composé de nombreuses oeuvres pour piano, son instrument de prédilection. Son Escenas Poeticas (scènes poétique) et Escenas Romanticas (scènes romantiques) sont deux suites qui montrent pianistique influences de Grieg, Schumann et Liszt. Ces deux suites ne sont pas aussi bien connus en Amérique, ne sont pas comme ' espagnol ' comme certains de ses autres oeuvres - cependant, ils reflètent encore style de composition originale du compositeur et de la belle écriture mélodique. Le Escenas Romanticas contient six pièces de facile à difficile, alors que la Escenas Poeticas a trois pièces principalement facile au milieu en difficulté. Work commissioned by the pianists Iván Martín and Alba Ventura, on the occasion of the commemoration of the Centenary of Enric Granados (2016), and lasts approximately 10 minutes. It comprises two pieces of very contrasting character. The first, Rêverie, is a nocturne with broad resonances that unfolds in a recollected and expectant atmosphere, presided over by a lyrical expression and contemplative sign, scarcely disturbed by more passionate outbursts. Its cantabile course and precious writing conceal veiled references to the poetic and pianistic universe of Granados, including a hidden allusion to the musical acrostic of his name (made up of the notes Do-Mi [EnriC] and Sol-La-Re-Mib [GrAnaDoS]), which confers a special luminosity to its harmonic material. The Capriccio that follows lives up to its name with a more virtuosic and vigorous writing, with playful and colourful rhythmic accents, which drifts in its central part towards the dreamlike and ecstatic register that presided over some sections of the Rêverie, to conclude with a brilliant stretta. The premieres of the two pieces that make up the present work took place on 20 January 2016 at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona (Capriccio) and on 14 April 2016 at the Auditori de Barcelona (Rêverie), starring Iván Martín and Alba Ventura, respectively. Both pieces are contemporaries of the 'Romanza sin palabras', for chamber ensemble, commissioned by The City University of New York on the occasion of the celebration of the Granados Year in New York, and premiered on 10 March 2016 at the Elebash Recital Hall of the CUNY by the Perspectives Ensemble (art. dir. Many of his Piano compositions have been transcribed for the classical Guitar: examples include Dedicatoria Danza No. 5 Goyescas.

This mini-cycle of three songs for Voice and in this instance Guitar are ranked among the greatest of Granados’s musical achievements. The blend of beautiful melody formal integrity and control in the accompaniment creates a remarkable work. The songs set the poetry of Fernando Periquet a contemporary Spanish writer and generally concern the theme of romantic love. Granados’s life and work were cut tragically short when the passenger ship on which he was sailing was bombed by a German U-boat in the English Channel. Enrique Granados (1867-1916) was a Spanish composer and pianist who studied in Barcelona and Paris and whose life was tragically cut short by the First World War. One of his earliest and most enduring works though rarely performed today is the collection of 8 Waltzes for Solo Piano Valses Poeticos (Op. 43 1887). While they were intended to be performed as a suite each Waltz can still be performed individually and will easily stand on its own merits. Throughout the suite Granados seamlessly weaves the lucid lyrical melodies with the lively dance tempo to create one of the true classics of the genre something no aspiring pianistshould be without.

In case the work is to be performed by more than 20 singers it will be necessary to purchase additional copies of the chorus parts, wich are available in packs of 20 copies).On 11th March 1911, the great pianist and composer Enric Granados performed this piece as an absolute premiere at Barcelona's modernista concert hall Palau de la Música Catalana.In spite of the great success achieved on the day of the premiere by this ambitious work for piano, organ and three choirs whose words in Catalan were provided by an unknown writer, the piece was never again performed or published. Its manuscript was assumed to be lost for decades and it was even thought that it might have been burnt in a fire. Finally, the pianist and Granados specialist Douglas Riva recovered it and offered it to Boileau Editorial de Música for publication.El Cant de les estrelles was performed once again on 22nd March 2007, 96 years after its first performance, in New York's Ascension Church, with Douglas Riva himself at the piano and Dennis Keene conducting. / Choeur Et Piano

Los Majos Enamorados-The Spanish composer Enrique Granados left a varied and wide-ranging oeuvre but it is above all his Piano music that is still very much alive today. This Urtext edition of the dazzlingly virtuosoGoyescas no doubt his best-known Piano composition now brings a prestigious new work to the Henle catalogue. The suite was written between 1909 and 1911. Its unusual title goes back to the Spanish artistFrancisco de Goya whose paintings inspired Granados. The Goyescas conjure up Spanish life in Goya?s time at the end of the 18th century gallant and sensual but also melancholic and dark. Thesubtitle ?Los majos enamorados? (the young lovers) provides a thematic link among the six scenes which depict the joys and sufferings of budding love.
