Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.996522 Composed by James Mayhew. Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score. 7 pages. James Mayhew #6234441. Published by James Mayhew (A0.996522). This is a set of 8 variations on a theme in C major, which begin as Classical sounding variations on the Mozartian theme, Nos 1 and 2 of which sound quite like short Czerny studies, before a variation of many repeated notes embedded in broken chord figurations, until a frantic ending disrupts the traditional Classical harmony with plenty of chromaticism and a slightly bluesy ending. The next variation is in 12/8 with a lilting feel, while the 6th variations is a C minor one which begins in a stately march feel before merging into freer, slightly jazzier material. Variation 7 returns to C major for a jolly outburst while the finale that is Variation 8 pours cascades of chords and gymnastical passages all over the place (including a black-key octave glissando in the right hand with a white-key gliss in the left at the same time), with an unexpected ending.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1004687 Composed by Adrian Gagiu. 20th Century,Baroque,Contemporary. Score. 20 pages. Adrian Gagiu #4297891. Published by Adrian Gagiu (A0.1004687). Ten Variations for piano in G major on the bass of the Aria from J. S. Bach's Goldberg Variations, beginning directly with the first variation, which includes the theme in the bass. Neoclassical composition, with some Neo-baroque hints due to the theme, and some subtle allusions to the other great variation cycle, Beethoven's Diabelli Variations. Most of the variations are treated in invertible counterpoint (of course made easier by a more relaxed harmonic language) and, while including all the notes of the theme, transform it a lot through various moods.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1189809 By Brian Golden. By Brian Golden. Arranged by Brian Golden. Classical,Contemporary. Score. 12 pages. Brian Golden #789404. Published by Brian Golden (A0.1189809). Prelude 2 in A Minor Aolian from 24 Preludes for the Piano in Major and Minor Modes by composer Brian Golden   The creative concept in writing these preludes is to provide a link to past preludes written for the keyboard, and in particular to the works of J.S. Bach and Frederic Chopin, whose works stand as essential repertoire for any student of the piano.  Using Bach’s and Chopin’s examples, my goal was to compose in all twenty-four keys, yet offer my own variation on the progression of key signatures – Bach’s being a pattern of major to parallel minor progressing chromatically through all keys, and Chopin’s a pattern of major to relative minor keys progressing clockwise through the circle of fifths.  In order to expand my harmonic and melodic possibilities, I have included the modal keys rather than only the major and harmonic minor keys, and have chosen to work counterclockwise through the circle of fifths, which is a more natural harmonic progression.  Therefore, all major preludes resolve from one to another V-I, as well as do all the minor preludes.  While there are seven modal scales, I decided to leave out the locrian modes for the following reasons.  First, due to the diminished fifth, the locrian mode cannot be thought of as either major nor minor.  Second, the locrian mode did not have a relative key to pair with, since there were no other keys with the identical characteristic notes.  In creating the key architecture, I determined that there was only one solution to pairing major and relative minor scales based on a shared parent key and characteristic note - ionian/aolian, mixolydian/phrygian and lydian/dorian.  This specific order of modal scales is the only order that would enable composing in all twelve key signatures.  Finally, the inspiration for each prelude came from playing through several other preludes in the same keys - mostly by Bach and Chopin - and letting their themes and styles influence me in the writing of my own.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1376894 By SU, Chen-Hsin. By SU, Chen-Hsin. 20th Century,21st Century,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score. 12 pages. Patrick Su #961466. Published by Patrick Su (A0.1376894). ‘’Perspectives on Healing: for solo piano‘’In order to be healed from the various dilemmas in life, we need to understand our own habitual patterns of thinking in addition to the help provided by others. We often find afterwards that although similar types of dilemmas keep appearing, the main person who helps us overcome them is ourselves. This piece is composed of melodies or rhythms with several levels of thematic material and their related patterns of variation. These themes are: ‘’resilience’’, ‘’decision making’’, ‘’contemplation’’, ‘’inner struggle’’, ‘’dilemma’’, ‘’crisis’’, ‘’kind persons and their help’’, “fight for yourselfâ€, and “feeling lost in lifeâ€.The most frequent themes are: kind persons and their help, resilience, dilemma , and decision making . (The less frequent material sometimes serves as a bridge between passages.)Although the tempo is indicated on the score, the performer can use a flexible tempo as appropriate. This piece takes about 6 minutes to play.———————————————Chen-Hsin SU (born in Chiayi City, Taiwan in 1989) is a composer/pianist/psychiatrist.In recent years, Chen-Hsin's works have been awarded in several international piano composition competitions. His compositions have also been performed in America and Australia.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1383996 Composed by David Fraser. 20th Century,21st Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Score. 178 pages. David Fraser #968350. Published by David Fraser (A0.1383996). This volume contains five solo piano pieces expertly crafted and meticulously edited for accuracy. Advanced pianists will welcome the technical challenges and heights of musicality these works require. Music terminology for â??Le Cygne noirâ?? and â??L'océanâ?? are in French, with regard to the dedications of these pieces. All other works use conventional music terminology in Italian. 178 pages. ISMN 979-0-800277-00-9.David Fraser wrote the first 41 measures of â??Rhapsody No. 1â?? in 1997 and subsequently completed this piece and all other works in this volume over the course of six months in 2019. When playing the original 41 measures of â??Rhapsody No. 1â?? in 2019, Fraser noted that the music had some resemblance to works by Sergei Rachmaninoff. This encouraged Fraser to compose the remainder of this piece in a manner reminiscent of Rachmaninoff and, consequently, author a suite of solo piano pieces as homages to some of his favorite composers. In Rachmaninoffâ??s famous â??Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 43â??, variation 18, the composer uses an upside-down inversion of a small melody by Paganini. Similarly, Fraser uses a backwards inversion of a small melody from Rachmaninoffâ??s variation for the Rhapsodyâ??s â??Adagioâ? section, which starts on Page 3.Le Cynge noir {The Black Swan} is the second piece Fraser authored, dedicated to his beloved piano composer, Maurice Ravel. In this piece, Fraser wrote in his own style while evoking images such as a swan gliding on a lake, peering at its reflection in the water, and taking flight into the clouds with its wings rustling in the wind. Fraser gleaned inspiration for this piece from Ravelâ??s song for voice and piano â??Histoires naturelles - Le cygneâ??, set to a poem by Jules Renard. In addition, Fraser alternates between the keys of C-sharp major and A major as a depiction of the magical swanâ??s internal conflict in choosing to exist as a black or white swan.Fraserâ??s third composition is â??Sonata No.1 Gothicâ??, dedicated to Sergei Prokofiev, not as a representation of this genre of music, but in form. Specifically, Fraser uses a similar structure in Movement 1, starting at Measure 72 marked â??più mosso e con abbandonoâ?, to the notoriously difficult â??colossaleâ? section of Prokofievâ??s â??Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 16â??, Movement 1. The sonataâ??s Movement 3 also follows a structure parallel to Movement 4 of Prokofievâ??s aforementioned piano concerto, employing fiendishly challenging syncopated jumps in both hands. Written in ternary form, Movements 1 and 3 of Fraserâ??s sonata are in C minor; Movement 2 is in E-flat minor, instead of the expected relative or dominant key. This work has explosive sentiments of rage that elicit a sense of immensity and darkness, touching on the macabre yet maintaining an alluring nature. The fourth piece of this suite, â??L'océan {The Ocean}â?? dedicated to Claude Debussy, uses whole-tone scales throughout as lyrical motifs. The composition unfolds with the allusion of the sun glimmering on ocean waves, followed by the playfulness of eddies and gusts of wind. These themes merge into one another as the wind increases in ferocity, culminating in the start of a storm with sudden strikes of lightning preceded by the reverberation of thunder. The pitter-patter of rain on the water steadily evolves into a full tempest that engulfs the middle section of the piece. As the storm subsides and the ocean calms, night has fallen and the twinkling of stars in the firmament are reflecting upon the water. The piece ends with the return of the opening theme as the sun swiftly rises above the ocean on the horizon.Prelude No. 1 L'adieu {The Farewell} offers rich and lush harmonies with an enticing melody. This piece was written in memoriam to Fraser's mother.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533691 Composed by Carson Cooman. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Standards. Score. 13 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3038633. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533691). This work, Kayser Variations, was written as a tribute to Margaret Kayser, long-timechemistry teacher (for 16 years) at Allendale Columbia School in Rochester, New York onthe event of her retirement from teaching. This work takes a variations on a theme form but uses the concept of placing the choraletheme itself in the middle of the work (instead of its customary place at the beginning),surrounded on both sides by variations. The theme is God Save the King/Queen, thenational anthem of the United Kingdom. The pitch material of the variation accompaniment is derived, at some points, from subscriptsand coefficients from chemical formulae and balanced chemical equations. Each of the variations also pokes fun at a different element, style, or method of 20th centurymusic competition. So this work is also a parody of sorts. This work should be performed with a slight break (almost a breath) between each variation.Dynamic markings are provided as a guide but performers should use their own judgment.Pedal should be used by the performer where appropriate. This work should always beperformed in its entirety. The variations should never be played on their own.

Sacred Metamorphoses is a mostly contemplative and almost mystical piano suite in F sharp major in Neo-romantic style and in 8 movements, entirely on themes from Symphony No. 3 by Camille Saint-Saens presented in its first movement. Each of the following character movements is actually a huge variation on the themes, with different techniques and deeply felt or virtuoso passages.

Published by Paul Thurmond (A0.828262). Tune: PUER NOBIS NASCITURUse: Prelude, PostludeThis is an Epiphany hymn that I set in the style of Handel's harpsichord variations. I recorded it on harpsichord, but it also works great on a piano. The theme is stated plainly. The first variation adds running eighth notes in the right hand. The second variations switches the eighth notes to the left hand, and changes the harmony a bit.The third variation adds triplets in the right hand, while the left hand plays the same pattern over and over, a technique known as a ground bass. In the recording, I play it using the lute stop. The fourth variation is a sarabande, a slow dance in triple meter with frequent emphasis on the second beat of the measure. The fifth and final variation states the melody in octaves in the left hand, while the right hand goes crazy with sixteenth notes. The first eight measures of the right hand are inverted and modified to form the second eight measures.I had a lot of fun writing this. I hope you have as much fun playing it.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.976507 Composed by James Domine. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score. 31 pages. Earth Music, Ltd. #2081747. Published by Earth Music, Ltd. (A0.976507). This sonata is a solo transcription of the first movement of Domine’s Piano Concerto #1 in B-flat minor. The sonata begins with a slow introduction that juxtaposes two opposite harmonic realms represented by the interval of a diminished fifth. As the opening sequence drifts aimlessly through a cloud of amorphous sonorities, the principal theme is suddenly and aggressively thrust center stage by an angry theme marked Agitato. This theme wends its torturous way to the contrastingly quiet subordinate theme. An episode of melancholic discourse ensues, creating an air of confidential intimacy. The exposition ends with an elided dominant cadence which is left unresolved and that leads directly to the development section. Chord clusters built on hexachords provide a serialized variation on the principal theme. This tripartite antiphonal sequence works toward a culmination as the theme is expanded in rhythmic layers, finally reaching a cacophonic explosion. A retransition based on the slow introduction leads to the recapitulation, this time with alternating variations on the principal theme. After the lyrical restatement of the subordinate theme, the coda confronts us with a starkly bleak musical atmosphere that concludes with a fiery flourish. This transcription was made at the request of piano pedagogue Joanna Ezrin for Vera Weber, who has played it to great acclaim in numerous competitions and recitals.

In honor of Gabriel Fauré Barcarolle No.4 by Gabriel Fauré was one of the first pieces I learned when I was studying piano at the college level. I still clearly remember my first contact with this piece, which was also my first encounter with Fauré. The strange beauty of the secondary theme of this piece captivated me. In honor of Fauré and in memory of this highpoint in my musical development, I also composed a barcarolle. Written on a larger scale, the form of my piece still strives to emulate Fauré. It is written in ABA form, with a contrasting central section introducing an intricate theme. Although it might sound new, this central theme is essentially a variation on the initial melodic motif of the piece. The piece is built on a ternary rocking rhythm typical of the barcarolle. Still, some rhythm irregularities are noticeable from the very beginning of the piece, with measures alternating between 9/8 and 11/8.

Published by Brian Golden (A0.1216197). Prelude 12 in Bb Minor Dorian from 24 Preludes for the Piano in Major and Minor Modes by composer Brian Golden  The creative concept in writing these preludes is to provide a link to past preludes written for the keyboard, and in particular to the works of J.S. Finally, the inspiration for each prelude came from playing through several other preludes in the same keys - mostly by Bach and Chopin - and letting their themes and styles influence me in the writing of my own.YouTube Link https://youtu.be/xb4E0I-vJek.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1320814 Composed by William Grosvenor Neil. 20th Century,Classical. Score. 41 pages. TheComposerStudio.Com, LLC #909259. Published by TheComposerStudio.Com, LLC (A0.1320814). Movement I. Light by the Beauty of MusicThis movement opens with a driving energy that does not diminish until the final passages.  The opening theme continues to cycle over accenting sonorities in counterpoint with a 2nd theme that spins forth in perpetual motion.  From here emerges a pair of folk themes in tandem. I quote the Romanian folk song:  On the Freedom Plains along with a counter theme that I composed in a minor mode. I want to thank my Moldovian friend, Natalia Rojcovscaia-Tumaha for inspiring the inclusion of this quote in this movement. This basic cry for freedom among people that have identified with a country where generations have lived and died was the sentiment that I wanted to capture in this music. The movement ends with an unresolved flourish that slowly dies away suggesting the mysterious uncertain nature of music. Movement II. DeliquesceThe second movement is a simple song-like narrative that speaks in short rhythmic open phrases. The music progression in variation form.  All the while, a spinning thread of notes orbits this narrative, eventually cascading into a perpetual motif that ends suspended in space.Movement III.  Light Upon WaterThe third movement continues the perpetual motion of the second movement and transforms into a running tapestry of harmonic statements that build to a euphoric choral declaration.  After a reflective, improvisatory middle section, the cascading perpetual motion of the opening returns. The conclusion of the movement is signaled by what I call a crossing cadence:  the theme in full chordal orchestration is accelerando in the right hand and is retrograde, ritardando in the left hand.  Finally, a short coda finishes the sonata.  © 2022 William Grosvenor Neil  williamneil.net   thecomposerstudio.com  support: thecomposerstudio@gmail.com.

Piano - difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q47140 For piano. Composed by Stefan Heucke. This edition: single sheet. Downloadable, Separate edition. Op. 85. Duration 25 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q47140. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q47140). The President of the German Bundestag, Norbert Lammert, asked me to compose a piano work which should relate to the German anthem and was to be performed for the first time on the occasion of his retirement from political activities in autumn 2017. The title Variationen mit Haydn [Variations with Haydn] illustrates that Haydn's own variations on his hymn are part of the work, yet are modified immediately upon appearance. The piece consists of the theme as set by Haydn, four groups of four variations each, with the first of each variation being audibly close to Haydn, while the others gradually move farther away from him. The theme reappears in the coda very softly and pensively – damaged, yet not broken. Stefan Heucke.
