String Quintets op. 18 and 87-The genesis of Mendelssohn?s String quintets is closely connected to his friend Eduard Rietz and the latter?s brother Julius. Deeply affected by Eduard?s death in 1832 Mendelssohn exchanged the ?Minuetto?movement in his A major Quintet Op. 18 written six years previously for a newly composed adagio. It was in this form that the work was finally sent to the publisher. The Quintet in B flat major was onlypublished after Mendelssohn?s death; numerous unauthorized entries by Julius Rietz thus found their way into performance practice. An examination of the autograph allowed us to return the work to its original form thecommentary contains detailed information on this.

French composer and teacher Darius Milhaud (1892-1974) was a prolific composer of the 20th Century as a member of 'Les Six'. His compositions remain highly regarded String Quintet No. 2 being no exception. Milhaud's compositions are influenced by jazz and polytonality as exemplified in String Quintet No. 2 which is the second of four String Quintets by the composer. Composed in 1952 String Quintet No. 2 is an alternative exciting String Quintet for 2 Violins Viola Cello and Double Bass. Milhaud makes use of variation in bowings complex rhythms chromaticism alteringtempos double stops harmonics variation in dynamics and a wide tessitura among other aspects. Suite for Brass Quintet No. 2. Even as a young musician, Otto M. Schwarz played numerous works in the baroque style on the trumpet. Inspired by these student days, he is now composing new works ?in the style of??. We open with a festive Intrada, or entrée, followed by a Galliarde in 6/8 time. The regal and dramatic Sarabande is capped by a rapid 6/8 Finale.
