Sea Song Trilogy - Score

A marvelous suite! The bright cheerful opening will engage the entire audience from the first measure. Movement 1 is based on El Tortillero (The Tortilla Vendor) and is very creatively scored including the joyful dissonance of a busy street corner. The heartfelt and poignant second movement makes a pleasant contrast and the Allegro Festivo marking for the third movement means more fun in the sun including wonderful Percussion parts. LATIN FOLK SONG TRILOGY is a large-scale work for Grade 3 but the suite format keeps it manageable and William Himes' skillful scoring keeps all parts interesting to play while within appropriate technical demands.

The centre-piece of a chamber orchestra trilogy (see also Sinfonia Concertante andSinfonietta Accademica) and is a symphonic song-cycle in five continuous movements. The text ponders the influence of modern times on ancient ways of life.Into The Labyrinth is the second of a set of three works forchamber orchestra written in 1982-3 and is the only one using voice. The first performance took place in June 1993 in St. Magnus' Cathedral Orkney as part of the St. Magnus Festival. In Latin Anima means soul but it is also a Jungian expression for the female element of the male. Anima forms the first part of a nameless trilogy of solo concertos which emphasizes reflective moods. In this cello concerto it is mainly the melodic aspect that is in the foreground a bitter-sweet but always gentle song for cello.

An excellent new festival work from Elliot Del Borgo! Based on three songs inspired by the sea it opens with exciting woodwind flourishes and an excellent use of percussion. The middle section is a beautiful setting of Eternal Father Strong to Save that captures the essence of the piece while providing some interesting new harmonies. The last section is a fantasy on The Drunken Sailor that is quite effective and worthy of your utmost consideration.
