“Flutes on holiday by Jacques Castérède was written in 1962 for three or four Flutes. Each Flute part is quite difficult on this quartet and would be for advanced-intermediate / advanced flautists. This piece features four sections, each one expressing a different mood: Flûtes Pastorales is quite calm with some enthusiastic highlights, Flûtes Joyeuses reflects a very joyful part with a small dance in the middle, Flûtes rêveuses sounds timeless and reminiscent of a theme of Castérède?s 'Twelve Studies' and Flûtes Légères has a fast and light melody. Jacques Castérède (1926-2014) is a renowned composer and pianist. He has won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1953 and has composed numerous melodic pieces including ballets, concertos, symphonies, ensemble and chamber music.â€.

This work for flute trio is in no way connected to the famous work of the same name by Antonio Vivaldi. In his Four Seasons, Mario Valsania sees the changing seasons from a child's point of view: Spring, out in the fresh air on abike ride, the unhurried Summer, Autumn and the new school year, and finally Winter, with its Christmas celebrations...This is a composition in a classical style but with advanced, non-traditional harmonies. The composer's aim was to bring out the full richness of the flute's range and character - such as staccato and double-tonguing. InWinter, various traditional Christmas carols can be heard.

“Contemporary Japanese composer, Yuko Uebayashi moved to Paris in 1998. Uebayashi's works have been met with much success in both Japan and France, Beyond Time for 2 Flutes and Piano being no exception. Flautist, Jean Ferrandis described Uebayashi's music as â€â€œgems that, although they are so different, they yet belong to the same world, a world of vivacity, dreams, tenderness, humour, and one that is subtly contradicted by vehemence, virtuosity, melancholy and sorrow.â€â€œ Beyond Time contains four movements; 1) The distant light of the night, 2) The dancing light, 3) The white light, and 4) The rotating light in the dream. Beyond Time is modern in style, exploiting tonality, rhythm and the ensemble. A typical performance lasts about 18 minutes. Uebayashi's Beyond Time for 2 Flutes and Piano is a sublime addition to the ensemble repertoire.â€.

â??Summer days in the mountain by Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) is a famous Flute Quartet, published in 1955. Technically and musically challenging, this piece was written for advanced flautists. Summer days in the mountain was composed in four movements: 1. Pastorale, 2. Au bord du torrent, 3. Le Chant des fôrets, 4. Ronde. These four movements are all well-crafted to captivate the attention of the flautists (with their technicality, tempo and musicality) but also those of the audience. Eugène Bozza won different prizes at the Conservatoire de Paris such as the First Prizes for the Violin, conducting and composition, as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He composed several operas, chamber works and ballets, among others.â?.
