Bach composed his oratorio for the Feast of the Ascension in Leipzig in 1735. Though this work has the duration of a cantata, the choice of text places it among the oratorios. From Lecons des Tenebres by Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1634-1704)This simple Baroque choral is perfect for a developing choir of young voices. Charpentier originally wrote this joyous masterwork for 3-Part Mixedvoices with an accompaniment of continuo and two flutes or violins.
