Three arrangements including Ave Verum Corpus and the Lacrimosa from the Requiem.During the year 1771 when Mozart was 15 years old he and his father Leopold were touring Italy which was at that time the most formidable citadel of the music world. In the following four years the young Mozart was received at the homes and villas of Italy's aristocracy. He met the most famous musicians of the time including Niccolo Piccinni operatic rival to Gluck and Padre Martini from whom he was to benefit from studies in counterpoint. He also met many noted male soprano singers and for one the celebrated Venanzio Rauzzini he wrote in 1773 the motet Exsultate Jubilate from whichcomes the well known Alleluia. At the end of his life only 19 years later in Vienna 1791 Mozart was very ill and working on a number of massive works such as the operas The Magic Flute and Titus also the Requiem. Titus was completed in 18 nerve-shattering days as it had to be performed in Prague in September 1791. At its premiere it was a complete flop. This affected the now overworked almost penniless composer's spirit and he returned to Vienna suffering from mental and physical exhaustion. Rest was denied him. The Magic Flute had to be finished for its premier on September 30th 1791. The task of the Requiem still faced him. In this weakened state Mozart thought that he was in fact writing his own requiem reading evil omens into the commissioning of the work. He thought someone had calculated the precise time of his death and was thus troubled with sombre thoughts. He completed the first two of the twelve parts. The next six parts were in an unfinished state and his manuscript ceased at the Lacrimosa. Süssmayer who was working closely with Mozart at the time was given the task of finishing the Requiem.Ave Verum Corpus is also one of his final works. It is a setting of an anonymous hymn written as a motet for Anton Stoll the choirmaster at Baden in June 1791.Mozart was a composer of great genius who

However the song was written shortly after World War II by Friedrich-Wilhelm Möller. Bach: Complete Organ Works Vol. 7
Orgelbüchlein - with CD-ROM - ed. by Sven Hiemke
Of great practical value
?This edition has everything it takes to replace the Griepenkerl edition for practical music-making,? opined Rainer Goede (in ?kirchmusik.de?) immediately after the release of Volumes 5 and 6. If such a high degree of practical value is attested to these two volumes, then Volume 7 can proudly claim to have the highest practical value of all, since it has the greatest scope of all the volumes. After all, no organist can do without the basic repertoire of the 45 chorale preludes. Edited by Sven Hiemke, the book offers the best possible prerequisites for everyday use. The musical text is as faithful to the sources as possible, and it preserves Bach?s graphic idiosyncrasies in the beaming of eighth notes and sixteenth notes. Furthermore, the chorales are reproduced on three staves, which is fully in keeping with the practice of the Bach era ? but not with the source, however, since the composer himself notated the pieces of the ?Orgelbüchlein? on two staves, either for reasons of economy or for lack of space. The enclosed CD-ROM contains early versions and anonymous arrangements which should encourage organists to explore this repertoire in greater depth.

Edizione Critica A Cura Di Claudio Toscani. Par PERGOLESI GIOVANNI BATTISTA. EDIZIONE NAZIONALE DELLE OPERE DI GIOVANNI BATTISTA PERGOLESI (Casa Ricordi in collaborazione con la Fondazione Pergolesi Spontini di Jesi) Based on the anonymous recasting of a libretto derived in turn from La fede tradita e vendicata by Francesco Silvani (1705), Il prigionier superbo by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi was first performed on 5 September 1733 at the Teatro di San Bartolomeo in Naples. With this opera – his second dramma serio for San Bartolomeo in less than two years – the young composer (who had already acquired considerable professional stature in the city’s theatres, churches, and aristocratic circles) reprised a perennially popular subject centered aroundthe dramatic conflict between filial piety and devotion to one’s betrothed. Inserted between the opera’s three acts were the intermezzi of La serva padrona, which would soon go on to take all of Europe by storm. The primary source for this edition is a manuscript copy of the score currently housed in the Conservatorio di Musica “San Pietro a Majella” in Naples and prepared by Giuseppe Sigismondo, who was quite probably working from the now-lost autograph. Two other significant manuscript copies of the score also housed in Naples (respectively in the Biblioteca Oratoriana dei Girolamini and the aforementioned conservatory) were consulted, along with a number of manuscript copies of individual arias. The edition is furnished with a historical introduction, which traces the libretto’s complicated literary lineage and illustrates the circumstances of the opera’s commission, genesis, premiere, and subsequent history: and a critical apparatus containing detailed source descriptions and critical notes for both the text and the music. An earlier version of the last movement of the Sinfonia, and an aria for the third act whose text does not appear in the original printed libretto, are provided as appendices. / Date parution : 1905-07-09/ Répertoire / Solistes, Choeur et Orchestre

The poem I Sing Of A Maiden is one of the best known of the anonymous medieval hymns deceptive in its simplicity and full of grace and faith. The setting by Lennox Berkeley also has a deceptivesimplicity but reveals on repeated listenings or performances a harmonic integrity and subtlely that has made it a work that will continue to be performed and enjoyed for a long time to come. Lennox Berkeley wascomposing and having his works performed before he finished school then upon meeting Ravel was introduced to legendary teacher Nadia Boulanger in Paris with whom he studied. He mixed with the great artistic and musicalnames of prewar Paris before returning to Britain where he later met and lived with Benjamin Britten before the arrival of Peter Pears in Britten’s life. Berkeley was professor of composition at the Royal Academy of Musicand himself composed more than two hundred works of music many of them of enduring value.

Essercizi per gravicembalo - A cura di M. Moiraghi (supervisione E. Fadini). The 10th volume of Domenico Scarlatti?s Sonate per clavicembalo represents a crucial landmark of this series, i.e. the thirty Essercizi per gravicembalo (London, 1738-39) at the heart of the composer?s production. For a long time, the style of these sonatas and their role in the history of keyboard music has been debated. But nobody had ever examined thoroughly the key aspects of textual criticism, intended not only as a detailed reconstruction of the text, but as a philological study with a full scope. This volume is the first step in such direction. The musical text of this edition is the result of a systematic comparison of all the eighteenth century printed and manuscript sources preserving Scarlatti?s treasured Essercizi. In some cases, the edition presents an alternative version of the same sonata, based on the sources? examination and sometimes showing an intricate web of authorial variants. The detailed Critical Notes take into account all the variants handed down by the sources. Many topics are discussed in the rich Introduction, first and foremost the historical context and the genesis of Scarlatti?s sonatas. Furthermore, other important topics are investigated, such as: the relationship between the Essercizi and the rival Londonese edition by Roseingrave: the role and chronology of the contemporary French editions, known under the name of Boivin: the early interventions of anonymous performers.

Homage to Anish Kapoor and his sculpture 'Marsyas'. Par PART ARVO. Arvo Pärt about Lamentate: 'Lamentate is music for piano solo and orchestra. With respect to its form, however, the composition cannot really be described as a typical piano concerto. I chose the piano to be the solo instrument because it fixes our attention on something that is 'one'. This 'one' could be a person, or perhaps a first-person narrative. Just as the sculpture leaves the viewer with a light and floating impression in spite of its overwhelming size, the piano, as a large instrument, allowed me to create a sphere of intimacy and warmth that no longer seems anonymous or abstract. Overall, it could be said that my work is marked by two diametrically opposed moods. By way of slight exaggeration, I would characterize these two poles as being 'brutal-overwhelming' and 'intimate-fragile'. The two characters are not simply placed opposite one another, much rather being left to develop themselves in a conflict that runs throughout the entire work.'/ Répertoire / Piano et Orchestre

A work for Soprano Woodwind 2 Horns and Strings.Duration: circa 15 minutesProgramme Note: 'This work was commissioned as a possible companion piece to Mozart?s Exsultate Jubilate and the decision was quickly made to write something as a complete contrast. The poems chosen one anonymous from the early 16th century the other two by the famous Scottish poet William Dunbar [1460? 1513?] describe the promise of salvation after life?s dark passage. Each of the three poems echo this thought: ?In celum ther is joy with Thee? ?A short torment for infinite gladness? and ?Since erdly joy abides never Work for the joy thatlastès ever?. Thus in each poem the poet can overcome the fear of his inevitable death with the certainty of salvation: this work also has its ?dark? moments but the overall mood is one of calmness and peace. As with the words there are several musical motives that link the three songs. The musical motive for the refrain ?Terribilis mors conturbat me? in the first macaronic poem [also a salute to Mozart since the Exsultate is in Latin] returns a little higher and more despairingly in each verse until the last verse where it is played a whole octave higher. This motive reappears [played mostly by the oboes] in the last song but now the pitch of each repeat goes in reverse that is from high to low. The famous motive of the Gregorian chant Dies Irae [representing death] is used to accompany the prayer of the second song. A musical motive for the joy of Paradise appears in the second song ?A free choice given to Paradise or Hell?. There is also a ubiquitous 3-note chordal cluster which is used to illustrate the words: sometimes as a colour and

Luis Tinoco (Composer) and Stephen Plaice (Libretto) wrote 'Paint Me' and Opera for six singers and Chamber Orchestra.Rui Horta and Joana Carneiro are responsible for the stage direction and the musicaldirection.'My idea in writing Paint Me was to bring together six characters all of whom have a prolific imaginative interior life and to explore what they would make of each other in the confines of a railwaycompartment. The model for my libretto is Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales. The travellers in Paint Me are also on their way to Canterbury but they are strangers thrown together by the randomness of modern travel. Theirtales are not told publicly but in their own imaginations. Most journeys in the modern age are anonymous and conducted in silence. We have only a visual or perhaps manneristic impression of the people sitting opposite us. Thisintrospection in public opens up a private fantasy space in which our fellow travellers can become the characters in instant psychological dramatisations.I wanted to formalize each character’s fantasy into a full narrative. Theresult is a kind of anthology of operatic short stories surrounded by the framework of an ordinary journey.' - Stephen Plaice

Vocal Score Large Print-The story of the composition of Mozart's Requiem has a strange fabulous quality that is entirely typical of the events of his life. Whether we are considering his amazing exploits and achievements as a youthful virtuoso and maestro or the depth of his financial misfortunes in Vienna in the late 1780s there is little that is mundane about the main biographical facts. It comes as no surprise then to find that these facts have often been coloured and embroidered to enhance their emotional effect and to create a legend about this most remarkable musician. The simple story of the genesis of the Requiem is in itself striking - that in the last weeks of his lifeMozart was working on a Mass for the Dead that this work was the result of an anonymous commission and that the commissioner's envoy in order to avoid giving an address paid Mozart several unannounced visits like a messenger from another world - this story can easily be filled out with portents and hints of the supernatural.Even the account by Franz Niemetscheki (first published in 1798 based on information given by Mozart's widow Constanze and later receiving 'official' approval by being incorporated into the Mozart biography by Constanze's second husband Georg von Nissen) writes of the commissioner's agent appearing 'like a ghost' and Friedrich Rochlitz's account goes much further in suggesting that the composer was possessed by a demoniac and feverish desire to complete the Requiem and conscious of approaching doom

Réduction Piano. Par DVORAK ANTONIN. Composed in 1876, Dvorák's only piano concerto has been overshadowed by his other two concertos, for violin and violoncello, respectively. Performers and editors have often attempted to upgrade this pianistically unassuming work by adding stylisations of their own. Our Urtext edition revaluates the sources, frees the work from subsequent interventions and presents it to full advantage in its authentic form.
The principal source of our new edition is the first complete print issued by the publisher Hainauer in 1883, which has been meticulously collated with the autograph.
