A Final Fling was written at the request of David Childs for a CD recording with a Celtic theme, which he released in 2007. The phrase ‘a final fling’ means a last quick effort at doing something, perhaps when this item is used as an encore, and also, a fling is a type of Scottish Highland dance, which tied in with the Celtic theme. A light- hearted piece, A Final Fling starts in the mood of a folk dance and quotes from The Irish Washerwoman before flying to a close. A perfect way to put your euphonium player in the spotlight.

Looking Up, Moving On was commissioned by the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra and was part of a tour programme they gave in May 2012, a tour which included many areas that had been devastated by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. The theme of the piece is the powerful ability of mankind to overcome such disasters and look forward to a positive future; it opens in an appropriately optimistic mood, featuring bright orchestral colours and extensive syncopation. A chorale-like fanfare is soon introduced on horns and euphonium, answered by chirpy woodwinds. The mood subsides until an alto saxophone introduces a brief quotation from the composer's The Sun Will RiseAgain, which was written to raise funds for victims of the 2011 disaster. The mood soon changes and the horns introduce a noble theme under woodwind flourishes. This leads to the main Vivo section of the piece which is characterised again by strong syncopations as part of a florid theme in the low woodwinds. This melody undergoes varied development by all sections of the band until the horn fanfare returns triumphally on the brass. This is extended and leads to a faster coda which brings together previous material in counterpoint to close the work in optimistic mood. Looking Up, Moving On is gecomponeerd in opdracht van het Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra.

Fast en Your Seatbelt is a septet in two movements for solo euphonium (with alternative parts for solo trombone or solo tenor saxophone), alto saxophone, trumpet, bass guitar, electric piano, drum set and marimba/congas. It is a typical example of the versatile composing talent of Roland Szentpali. His approach to jazz is well structured, with virtuoso written sequences over a dynamic rhythm section sustaining the three melodic wind instruments (with optional improvisation spaces for them). I. Hunting Instinct is a 7/4 speedy groove music running over long basso continuo ostinati of the rhythm section including collectiv virtuoso intrusions of the wind instruments and improvised sequences. II. Transfer Passenger is pushing another kind of speedy groove, here on a more traditional 4/4, inspired by the human traffic jam in crowded international airports... Indeed, fasten your seatbelt... World premiere: 30th of June 2017, Theater 'de Schalm' in Veldhoven, the Netherlands with the Jazz Combo of “The Band of the Royal Netherlands Army Mounted Regiment and soloist Rodin Rosendahl on the euphonium.

This set also includes a Bb Euphonium TC solo part. Nico Samitz has been composing for chamber ensembles since his school days. For over ten years he has been writing works in a wide variety of genres for the “BlechReiz BrassQuintett†ensemble, in which he himselfplays trumpet and piano. His field of expertise ranges from classical pieces to jazz and meditative music—and even to pop-oriented compositions. While honing his skills in ear-training and composition at the Mozarteum, Salzburg, Nico became acquainted with a widerepertoire of works as a trumpet player with the Munich Symphony Orchestra, The Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Bavarian State Opera, all of which have influenced his writing style. The driving force behind his creative work is a winning combination of passion, the fun of music-making and a desire to express, through the medium of music, feelings that are difficult to put into words. Like many of his works, Nico composed The Joy of Freedom for the “BlechReiz BrassQuintetâ€. The catchy tune is reworked in a variety of styles throughout the entire work, giving it the quality of a true 'earworm'.

Wiregrass March was written to celebrate the southern portion of Georgia and Alabama known as Wiregrass Country, because of the type of grass that grows in this sandy soil. This march is written in the traditional style of Henry Fillmore. After a short introduction, the first strain has a light, happy melody with a simple flourish from the low brass. The second strain is highlighted by chromatic harmony to add depth. The new melodic content introduced by the low clarinets and euphonium first time through the trio add to the beauty of this march. This is followed by a flourish of brass to the end.Wiregrass March was written to celebrate the southern portion ofGeorgia and Alabama known as Wiregrass Country, because of thetype of grass that grows in this sandy soil. Followi ng the huge success of their instrumental method Look, Listen & Learn, Michiel Oldenkamp and Jaap Kastelein have focussed their attention on school bands and devised a completely new method that can be used in both instrumental lessons and class bands or wind ensembles.
Learning Music Together is the new method for young wind players and percussionists, aged eight and above.
Learning Music Together has been developed in close collaboration with professionals from the class band world, music schools, and academies in the Netherlands and Germany.
Learning Music Together combines instrumental lessons with a course for class band. The euphonium lessons offer euphonium -specific items such as new notes and technical exercises while at the same time supporting the learning of the class band, with a focus on rhythm, melodic structure and playing music together. The method consists of two volumes. Volume One introduces the first instrumental notes in unison and then develops part-playing with duets. Volume Two builds on the skills taught in the first volume and introduces pieces in three parts. In addition, supplementary material is available on the extensive website, e.g. demo- and accompaniment tracks for all pieces, additional pieces of music (well-known songs) and video tutorials. Learning Music Together is logically structured and illustrated in a child-friendly way - a perfect combination for young musicians!

Rainb ow in the Clouds is based on an old traditional spiritual, possibly an African-American song from the 19th century, entitled God Put a Rainbow in the Clouds. Composer Carol Brittin Chambers was inspired by poetic Maya Angelou to create of setting of this beautiful song. It is lush and beautiful throughout and will highlight the musicianship of your students. This would serve as a welcome change of pace piece on your program for concert or contest.Rainbow in the Clouds was commissioned by the Pflugerville Middle School Wind Ensemble in Pflugerville, Texas, directed by Shauna Satrom. The piece premiered in May 2017, in memory and celebration of Luis Ham, who was an Assistant Principal at Pflugerville Middle School. This piece is based on an old traditional spiritual, possibly an African-American song from the nineteenth century, entitled God Put a Rainbow in the Clouds. The first time I heard reference to this song was in a Maya Angelou video, in which she sings a portion of it: “When it looked like the sun wouldn’t shine anymore, Oh, God put a rainbow in the clouds.†In the video, Dr. Angelou honors those who have demonstrated kindness to her in the past, and she suggests that we all try to be a blessing to others. The Pflugerville community believed that Mr. Ham, with his positive outlook, was definitely a “rainbow in the clouds†for other people. The piece begins with a full ensemble introduction, followed by a woodwind treatment of the first verse with a fairly reserved tempo and straight eighth-note rhythm. When brass pick up the melody on the second phrase, we start to hear the song more like the original spiritual, with dotted-eighth, sixteenth rhythms. The middle section of the piece at m. 22 begins to move at a slightly quicker tempo, and the mood becomes lighter. This section becomes a call-and-response between a euphonium solo and upper woodwinds. The final section of the piece involves everyone playing together joyously and full, eventually winding down with two more solo statements in flute and euphonium.Note to the Conductor:Use this piece to introduce or reinforce the following musical concepts:Lyrical, expressive playing varied stylesSolo responsibilitiesKey changes, tempo changes.

Otto M. Schwarz is not only a composer of symphonic music, but he also composes for films and documentaries. This is the genre in which Pictures of Vienna for string orchestra were written, depicting various sights, events, or characters from Vienna's golden age. By writing this work as if composed in that time, the composer has created an immediate link to the era.
