Six easy pieces. Par MULLER IVAN. Ivan Müller was born in Reval in Russia (now Tallinin, Estonia) on 3 December 1786 and died in Bückeburg (Germany) in 1854. In 1808/09 he performed widely as a clarinet virtuoso - in Berlin, Leipzig, Wien, Paris and many other places where he also presented the new ?clarinette omnitonique? in B flat which he had invented. The system of keys in use in Germany to this day is based on Müllers invention. As a composer Müller was an exponent of the early Romantic style and wrote numerous concertos for his chosen instrument as well as this Serenade for Clarinet and Piano (or Harp or Guitar).
The editor Dieter Klöcker writes: ?These rather beautiful and accessible Romantic miniatures enjoyed great popularity in their day and I assume that even today they will meet with the approval of professional and amateur
players alike.? / Niveau : facile - moyen / Date parution : 2023-05-06/ Répertoire / Clarinette et Piano

Robert Schumann wrote his Fantasy Pieces for clarinet and piano in the course of two days in February 1849. Only a few days later they were premiered by Clara Schumann and the Dresden clarinetist Johann Gottlieb Kotte. Initially choosing the title Soirée Pieces for his works, Schumann finally decided to have them published as Fantasy Pieces, thereby emphasizing their poetical aspects. These connotations are also at the centre of clarinetist Elisabeth Eichenberg's notes on interpretation with special reference to the contemporary aesthetics of the clarinet sound. The edition is based on the first edition published in 1849 and also incorporates subsequent corrections in Schumann's personal copy. The compositional manuscript that has survived served as an important corrective. Besides the original clarinet part in A the edition also includes a transposed part for the B clarinet in order to make these standard works of the Romantic clarinet repertoire available to a wider circle of the clarinet community. / Clarinette Et Piano

To every pupil, the first concert is a special experience. Such impressions will all stick in the pupil's mind and quite often influence his or her entire future development. Opus 6-The Swedish composer Bernhard Henrik Crusell was long viewed as an insider tip among clarinettists; in the meantime his concertos have found their way to the concert stage. This is hardly surprising considering theenchanting music with which Crusell himself a Clarinet virtuoso of international rank has enriched the early romantic repertoire.Crusell’s works needn’t shy from a comparison with Weber’s and Spohr’sClarinet output. This Henle Urtext edition of the F-Minor Concerto marks the beginning of a new publication series of all three Clarinet concertos by Crusell which has been entrusted to the editor andclarinettist Nicolai Pfeffer. Since he combines editorial experience with many years of performance practice the works are in the best possible hands.

Novelty of form selected modulations strange tone colours the use of completely unexpected rhythms' this is how Camille Saint-Saëns praised the debut work of a young colleague and continued: 'Above everything is a charm that surrounds the whole work and makes the mass of average listeners accept the most surprising audacities as something entirely natural. The First Violin Sonata by Gabriel Fauré (1845 1924) was indeed an extraordinary composition which at the same time opened the way for the oeuvre of one of the most important French composers in the late 19th century and early 20th century: It was particularly with songs and Pianomusic that he could win the heart of the audience. In the 1870s Fauré wrote three songs which were originally not meant to be a unity but were later assembled under Opus Number 7. The first song is 'Après un rêve' a romantic rapturous song which like a 'Song Without Words' by Mendelssohn is perfect for making music with an accompanied solo instrument.

This fantastic volume contains a unified set of three Fantasy Pieces that make up Robert Schumann’s Opus 73. Completed in 1849 he linked each piece harmonically but compounded this by directing players to follow on to the next with performance notes: indicating that these were intended as a whole. From a mood of delicate expression through eloquent and lively to fiery and urgent this is a compelling and intriguing work. Perhaps it isn’t the finest composition by this talented writer but it is infused with more than enough Romanticism and thoughtfulness to make it an important and entertaining work. This version has beenskillfully arranged for Clarinet in A (or B Flat) with Piano Accompaniment by H. Bading and has been edited by Issay Barmas. The solo Clarinet in A and Clarinet in B Flat parts are also included on separate inserts.

Composed in 1956 by Bohuslav Martinu the Sonatina for Bb Clarinet and Piano is a neo-classical piece. This work to be played as a single movement has been written in three different sections: Moderato Andante and Poco Allegro. The rhythms are reminiscent of a Polka and a March and the piece contains unexpected syncopation. Being one of Bohuslav Martinu‘s later works it was written in New York after he spent some time in Paris. Bohuslav Martinu (1890-1959) was a Czech composer and a violinist. Even though he was interested in different style including Romanticism Jazz and Expressionism he wrote mainly neo-classical pieces including 16 symphonies 14 ballets and 15 operas.

Barenreiter Urtext Edition of Brahms' Sonatas In F Minor And E-Flat Op.120 for Clarinet and Piano.Features:A pioneering Urtext edition with an extensive Performance Practice CommentaryFor further information on Romantic performance practice we recommend the text booklet: ?Performance Practices in Johannes Brahms? Chamber Music? BA 9600Brahms had already announced his 'retirement' from composition when in the spring of 1894 he played chamber music with the cellist Robert Hausmann and the clarinettist Richard Mühlfeld. This encounter renewed Brahms' enthusiasm for Mühlfeld?s muchadmired playing and inspired him to write two new Clarinet sonatas in the summer of the same year. Brahms and Mühlfeld premiered the works and played them in several performances until the Sonatas Op.120 were first published in June 1895. These two works remain pivotal in the Clarinet?s recital repertoire establishing the Clarinet sonata as a distinct and viable chamber music genre. This edition features an extensive preface that informs about the sonatas? origins their compositional process pre-publication performances and their publication history as well as their early reception. Another truly remarkable aspect of this publication is the unique Performance Practice Commentary. Here the editors start from the premise that only a few decades after Brahms' death a widening gulf was already developing between the composer's expectations and the performance practices of the early 20th century. On the basis of manifold sources which include memoirs by pupils and chamber music partners treatises and essays early instructive editions and historical recordings the editors deal with key issues in understanding Brahms' notation. The editors provide an indispensable assistance for a historically informed interpretation of the work through a section-by-section analysis of rhythm and timing dynamics and accentuation dots and strokes slurring and non legato Piano pedalling and overholding Piano arpeggiation and dislocation Clarinet vibrato and portamento. Clarinet Concerto in E flat major op. 1-This edition completes Henle's series of all three Clarinet concertos by the Swedish composer and clarinettist Bernhard Henrik Crusell. Issued in Leipzig in 1811 the Clarinet Concerto In E-FlatMajor Op.1 was Crusell's first published work but had definitely been composed several years prior to this. With its elegant head movement and the simple and moving Adagio it is probably the most“Mozartian” of all of his three concertos although the final rondo is reminiscent of Carl Maria von Weber. The editor and clarinettist Nicolai Pfeffer is now presenting this charming work betweenClassicism and Romanticism on the basis of the first edition. The Piano reduction wonderfully fits the hands and was prepared by Johannes Umbreit on the basis of the original orchestral parts.

clarinet part in B flat-Along with Robert Schumann?s identically titled op. 73 the Fantasiestücke of 1864 by the Danish composer Niels Wilhelm Gade are an essential part of the repertoire of all clarinettists. Gade lived in Leipzig for a long time andhad been among Schumann?s close friends. With this deeply romantic composition he made an important contribution to establishing the clarinet as a chamber-music soloist. The four pieces in this collection can of course beperformed separately and are ideal teaching material. Our editor the clarinettist Nicolai Pfeffer has drawn upon the German and Danish first editions and the autograph in Copenhagen as sources and consequently has been able toeliminate several discrepancies found in older editions.
