In this jubilant setting, The King of Glory, Sarah Rodgers has provided church choirs of all abilities with a truly celebratory anthem that in its writing for SATB displays many elements of choral craft, from unison and two-part textures to a satisfyingly contrapuntal full harmony. The driving, rhythmic figure in the organ accompaniment underpins and uplifts the voices, and occasional harmonic juxtapositions add delightfully unexpected moments of colour. Importantly, with a proficient organist, the anthem can be prepared with just one or two rehearsals. His compositions are well-known for introducing elements of jazz and blues into the English choral tradition that he traditionallyworks within. The lyrics for De Virgine Maria are in Latin. In the September 2015 issue of Organists' Review Michael Overbury writes that this work 'is most attractive for the listener celebratory fun and serious intensely joyful and lyrical.'

A sustained middle section provides contrast capturing the majesty and mystery of God. The time signature changes and interesting harmonic writing make this a good challenge for more advanced choirs.
