Written for SATB choir and piano, with optional audience participation, Pas de deux is a work consisting of five movements by Paul Smith, the co-founder of VOCES8 and author of The VOCES8 Method. The movements can be performed individually or as one complete work. Pas de deux is inspired by the dance duet found in ballet, and the music takes the duet element of the dance to create a relationship between the performers and audience, enabling interaction between them and giving the option for performers and audience to make music together. Suitable for all ages, this piece offers opportunities both to create and to perform, informed by Paul Smith’s expertise in leading participatory music events with hundreds of thousands of people around the world. The Welsh traditional song Suo Gân is here arranged for SATB Chorus and Organ Accompaniment by Stephen Cleobury. Written by an anonymous composer, in Welsh it literally means 'Lullaby'. This beautiful arrangement is sure to be a favourite with audiences and choirs alike. It features lyrics in both English and Welsh.This traditional Welsh song has been a favourite within the repertoire for many years, after having been first documented by folklorist Robert Bryan. With versions sung by Charlotte Church, Katherine Jenkins and the Choir of King's College, Cambridge, Suo Gân is one of the most recognisable and well-loved tunes in the Welsh and English repertoire. This new arrangement by Stephen Cleobury will be a welcome addition to any choir's performance, with the combination of such a new take on an established classic with simple beautiful music. / Choeur Mixte (SATB) Et Orgue

Memento Creatoris an anthem for SATB choir was comissioned by the BBC Transcription Service for the Aldeburgh Festival in 1967.

Written for best friends of the composer and premiered by the LA Master Chorale. The heart of this piece is reflected in the text “i am never without it.” This is an intimate text set in an intimate way.

Par MACMILLAN JAMES. A setting of passages from the Book of Revelation, with particular reference to the angels who appear with seven trumpet blasts, heralding a series of apocalyptic scenes. Commissioned by Jeffrey Skidmore, director of Ex Cathedra, and first performed by them at Birmingham Town Hall in 2015. The composer states, ?There is a vividness and strangeness in these dramatic texts, which are endlessly fascinating and disturbing. The instruments used here are based on the various instrumental types mentioned throughout scripture ? trumpets, harp, bells, cymbals, tabor, rebec.? These are scored for mostly in their modern forms, but shofars (Jewish ritual temple trumpets) and early trumpets are also used. The choral writing shows a similar contrast between traditional and contemporary scoring, with polyphony and homophony alongside extended vocal techniques, including Sprechstimme. Leading choral director Paul Spicer comments, ?This is an extremely dramatic work which draws the listener into the apocalyptic story line ?
