Ein Kranz von Lobechören-This is an unusual setting for treble voices and harp. The words of the carols are largely the product of mostly anonymous 15th and 16th century writers. They retain their originality by Britten's extensive use of old English language. The work opens and ends with the choir processing to plainsong and the sections in-between deal with the traditional stories surrounding the birth of Christ.

The original version for solo soprano and SATB choir appeared on Patrickâ??s debut album Blue in Blue. It was subsequently recorded by Hayley Westenra for her Number-One-selling album Odyssey and in 2014 by Voces8 choir to produce a version for them which featured on their Number-One-selling album Eventide. Arranged here for pedal harp from the piano version by Elinor Evans the music reflects the heartfelt longing for the joys of heaven a happiness to be shared in a future moment of meeting expressed in the words.

Born in 1929 French composer Pierick Houdy was a student of Olivier Messiaen at the Paris Conservatoire. He led a successful career as director of many institutions and choirs and his compositions remain known to this day Sonata For Harp being no exception. Composed in 1983 Sonata For Harp contributes to a substantial catalogue of works by Houdy. The Sonata comprises three movements and a typical performance lasts about twelve minutes. The work is modern in style and addresses a range of technical features.
