J'ai toujours été attiré par les grands textes sacrés et les ouvrages philosophiques, Si j'ai choisi d'écrire une messe de Requiem, ce n'est surtout pas pour satisfaire une curiosité morbide, que l'on peut trouver chez quelques romantiques déprimés ou certains théologiens aux idées masochistes des temps anciens, absurdes moralistes de l'Inquisition confondant la vie avec la souffrance,J'ai avant tout cherché un moyen de me rapprocher de ma foi par un pèlerinage intérieur, une quête évidente et indispensable, Je pense que la musique est avant tout spirituelle, C'est par elle que j'ai puisé mon besoin de Dieu, et qui a donné un sens à ma vie, Que dire du sentiment réconfortant à écouter les grandes oeuvres prophétiques de Jean-Sébastien Bach ?Ecrire un Requiem, c'est d'abord écrire une oeuvre monumentale pour la vie, Que ce soit pour nos défunts, pour qui nous espérons une renaissance éternelle, ou pour le réconfort des vivants et leur accompagnement dans une recherche de l'absolu, A travers ma musique, je livre ainsi un voyage intérieur, souvent conflictuel, allant de mes doutes à mes convictions, et qui me permettrait de me débarrasser des futilités temporelles, pour ne garder que l'illumination, préparation intérieure à l'éclosion, recherche de la légèreté, libération, vibration cosmique et universelle,Frédéric Ledroit ' Je considère le Requiem de Frédéric LEDROIT comme l'équivalent, à leur époque, de ceux de Fauré et de Duruflé, Très inspiré, il traduit parfaitement la force, la puissance, mais aussi la poésie et la sérénité qu'on retrouve chez ses aînés, Frédéric LEDROIT n'est pas homme de concession et son oeuvre, une gifle aux péchés de l'Homme et l'entrée dans l'Eternité, a mûri pendant plusieurs années de façon à ce qu'il en soit extrait tout le suc de sa spiritualité, Cet enfantement est une magnifique preuve d'Amour à Dieu, Ayant eu le privilège d'être parmi les quelques interprètes (ou plutôt ' acteurs ') de sa première audition en l'église de la Madeleine à Paris, le dimanche 24 juin 2012, je n'oublierai jamais l'émotion qui m'envahit lors de ce grand moment d'intense communion et de grâce, un moment rare, 'François-Henri Houbart, organiste des grandes orgues de la Madeleine, Paris Prélude 2'54Introït 7'55Kyrie 2'56Dies irae 2'27Tuba mirum 2'55Domine Jesu 3'43Hostias 3'28Sanctus 4'05Pie Jesu 2'35Agnus Dei 6'14Ave Maria 2'32Lux aeterna 3'40Libera me 5'31In paradisum 3'32 / Choeur Mixte

Until now, anyone looking for music on the theme of Pentecost and the Holy Spirit for church services and concerts usually had to do so in larger collections that cover the entire church year or parts of it. With Music for the Spirit, there is now a choirbook specifically for the feast of Pentecost for the first time, closing a gap for an important feast of the Catholic, Protestant, and Anglican churches. Over 500 years of choral music from Renaissance to the modern age are covered here with compositions from the German-, English-, Italian- and French-speaking regions. Almost all the great composers of European sacred music are represented, from Palestrina over Byrd, Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Gounod, and Bruckner to Reger, Parry, Stanford, and Distler. With the chronological order, the development of the genre of the Pentecost motet and sacred choral music in general can be traced easily. All pieces can be performed by mixed choir a cappella or with organ accompaniment. In some cases, the accompaniment has been supplemented or arranged by the editor Stephen Harrap, in individual cases also the choral parts, e.g. when the original was composed for male voices only. Lully, Lullay was written at the request of Philip Reed, music director of the Bury St Edmunds Bach Choir, which gave the first performance on 17 December 2011 at Holy Trinity Church, Long Melford, Suffolk. Inspired by the familiar medieval text of the Coventry Carol , it is sung a cappella and invokes the sense of a lullaby through its metre and lilting melody. The fragility and bittersweet tonality of the opening verse is reflected in the continuous interaction between the tonic and dominant keys and resolving dissonances. This develops into broader passages of increased range and dynamics during the second and third verses, where the melody is passed between the upper and lower voices, clearly invoking the poignancy of the text. The last verse returns to the original theme with subtle harmonic changes and a reflective final cadence. An inspiring selection of new works from a range of contemporary composers, the Novello New Choral Series offers pieces for all types of choirs, including sacred and secular works from simple, four-part settings to more expansive, yet accessible, repertoire in an exciting variety of styles. Harriet Wybor was born in Leeds in 1986 and read music as an undergraduate at Durham University, followed by an M.A. in composition with Martyn Harry and António Pinho Vargas. Harriet's main compositional interests are sacred and secular contemporary choral and chamber music, and the relationship between music and time. Her work reflects a wide range of influences from renaissance choral music and medieval texts to 20th-century literature and art. Harriet has had works performed by the Northern Sinfonia (conducted by H K Gruber), Psappha, the Allegri String Quartet, St John's College Choir, Durham, the Bury St Edmunds Bach Choir and the Fishburn Band - broadcast on BBC Radio 2's Listen to the Band . After graduating from Durham University, Harriet continued her studies at the University of Edinburgh, where she read for an LL.M. in innovation, technology and the law. Craig McLeish writes of The Negro Speaks of Rivers - Langston Hughes (1902-1967) was the first black American to earn his living from writing. He was an innovator of jazz poetry, becoming part of the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s and 1930s. He wrote plays, short stories, novels, and his poetry was widely read. He was also a journalist, columnist and lecturer. The Negro Speaks of Rivers was perhaps his earliest published work, written when only 17 and while travelling by train to Mexico to visit his father. As the train crossed the Mississippi he suddenly began thinking about how rivers had impacted on Negro history, particularly in the fight against slavery. The four rivers mentioned in the poem lent themselves to using musical influences from those particular regions. However, I have tried to keep these links fairly tenuous to avoid overt pastiche. A few years ago I was fortunate enough to work with Congolese musicians. These sessions led to the intricate rhythms in The Congo . The Mississippi mentions New Orleans, so a jazz fugue seemed the most appropriate compositional device to weave into the texture. The spirit of The Nile was gauged from many hours listening avidly to Egyptian music. Craig McLeish began his musical life as a chorister at St Paul's Cathedral. As a bass guitarist, conductor, musical arranger and composer, he has worked with a wide variety of groups in several genres, and scored a hit with the cult pop band 'Fat and Frantic'. He is musical director of Young Voices UK, and conducts several youth and community choirs in and around Milton Keynes. / Choeur SATB
