Commissioned by the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra this concertino was originally conceived as a part of a complete educational concertprogram. Four concertini each featuring a different instrumental family within the chamber orchestra are played in succession to demonstrate the characteristic sounds of those instruments. The music is thematically related but not identical to the Concertino for Chamber Orchestra (parts available on rental from the publisher) which serves as the program's closer demonstrating all of theorchestral sections playing together. This program is suggested by the composer for orchestra concerts however each instrumental concertino can beperformed individually and stands quite effectively on its own as a short chamber recital piece.

Adventure Land was commissioned by Clermont Communauté (which includes the city and suburbs of Clermont-Ferrand) and the CREA (the directors of the local music schools and conservatoires). This work was the opening piece of a show combining orchestra, choir and actors, which was co-written by the author and producer David Bulcourt. The story takes place in the city of Clermont-Ferrand, which an explorer discovers through a series of riddles and adventures. Adventure Land is written in the form of a symphonic march which features a slow and pleasant passage in the middle of the work. The result is a dynamic and playful piece, similar to the style that one might find in cartoons or animated films.

Work for 2 Trumpets 2 Horns and 2 Trombones premiered in the Museum of Scotland in 1998 by members of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Maxwell Davies has relished incorporating brilliant tuckets and alarms for brass in his larger-scale scores too much to write a perfunctory fanfare; a seminal influence was the statue of St. Michael on the Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome where he studied in the late 1950s generator of high trumpet fanfares throughout his output which resurface in apocalyptic style towards the end of his orchestral work Roma Amor. Written in memory of Gilbert Johnson former principal trumpet of the Philadelphia Orchestra and professor of trumpet at the University of Miami. This work is based on two of his most famous recordings: The Antiphonal Music of Gabrieli (specifically Canzona per sonare No. 2) and Respighi's Pines of Rome. It makes effective use of an antiphonal choir and is an excellent concert opener.

François Glorieux was born in Belgium in 1932, and acclaimed throughout Europe, the USA, Latin America, Canada, Japan, China, the Middle East and Africa. He is one of the most widely accomplished and versatile musicians traveling the international circuit today: pianist composer conductor, commentator, entertainer, honorary professor of chamber music at the Royal Music Conservatory of Ghent and guest professor at Yale University (USA). His particular art was the rare one of improvisation presented in five languages. Glorieux practices all musical styles and has been highly considered by great artists such as André Cluytens, Arthur Rubinstein, Yves Nat, Hiroyuki Iwaki, Enrique Jorda, Raphael Frühbeck de Burgos, but also Michael Jackson, Stan Kenton, Stéphane Grappelli, Paul McCartney, Toots Thielemans, Jacky Collins, Annie Girardot, Dionne Warwick, A.C.
