Since the two verifiable autographs of the offertory Misericordias Domini have been lost, for the present new critical edition Robert Munster was able to rely for the first time on the manuscript parts from the music of the Court of Munich which he discovered. These can be traced back to the material used for the first performance of the work in Munich in 1775 and hence they can also be traced back to the Munich autograph. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.4004000.

Anton Bruckner's Te Deum - a high point in the composer's output and one of the most important works of the sacred choral repertoire in the 19th century - is now available in a modern, scholarly edition. The Carus edition draws on both the two sources regarded as important, the autograph score and the first printed edition, with careful consideration given to variant readings. And so a music text has been prepared which reflects the composer's intentions as closely as possible. Great emphasis has been placed on a clear-to-read layout of the full score pages, as well as excellent legibility for the parts, which are available on sale. With current performance practice in mind, the clarinet parts are notated in B flat instead of A, corresponding with the first printed edition. The vocal score has been newly prepared to reflect current practical requirements. As an economical alternative, a chorus score is available. Bruckner's Te Deum is also available in carus music, the choir app. The app contains the music and a recording, as well as a coach to help with learning each choral part. In preparation: arrangement of the Te Deum for soli, choir, brass quintet and organ. Score and part available separately - see item CA.2719000.

Reprint of the first edition. Friedrich Spitta recommended to Herzogenberg that he set Gerhard Tersteegen's text Gott ist Gegenwartig on the occasion of that poet's 200th birthday. Besides the obbligato organ, Herzogenberg restricted the instrumentation to strings, two trumpets, three trombones and timpani, and thus achieved a majestic quality which corresponds to the text. There are two main innovations: firstly the inclusion of the congregation through communal songs, and secondly, the frequent use of the main organ - as accompaniment to the congregational hymns as well as during the important preludes and postludes of the two parts 'Maundy Thursday' and 'Good Friday,' of which the Passion consists. (Kirchenmusik im Bistum Limburg 1/1990). Score and part available separately - see item CA.4019700.

For the first time a completely self-contained organ repertoire is presented which originated in the churches of northern Germany after 1780, and yet keeping up the musical traditions of the 17th century. Thus, a many-facetted, more recent organ music from northwestern middle Europe is now accessible. Focal points of the music clearly are church songs and counterpoint; a fascinating element is the rich chromaticism. The pieces are of medium difficulty, practical for liturgical or concert use.

In 1726 Johann Sebastian Bach performed a series of cantatas by his Meiningen cousin Johann Ludwig, then continued this series with his own works, but remained faithful to the textual models used his cousin: a Meiningen cycle of texts by an unknown author from the early 18th century. All these texts share the characteristic of including two quotations from the bible: one from the Old Testament at the beginning, and another from the New Testament in the middle. These cantatas include Herr, deine Augen sehen nach dem Glauben BWV 102. The opening chorus in several sections is one of Bach's masterpieces of choral composition. The cantata is also one of those works on which Bach's later reputation was based: performances are documented from 1776 in Hamburg and in Berlin by Zelter's Sing-Akademie from 1813 onwards. In 1830 it was one of the very first cantatas by Bach to appear in print. Score available separately - see item CA.3110200.

Men delssohn describes to his friend Klingemann the 1840 work as a 'symphony for chorus and orchestra'... First three symphonic movements, to which 12 choral- and solo- movements are appendaged; the words from the Psalms, and indeed all pieces, vocal and instrumental, are composed in the words 'Everything which has breath, Praise the Lord'; one understands by this that first the instruments give praise in their own way, and then the chorus and the individual voices. This work is now available in carus music, the choir app! Score available separately - see item CA.4007600.
