Avec 8 Préludes et 1 Allemande De 'L'Art De Toucher Le Clavecin' (1716-1717). Par COUPERIN LOUIS. Once again the French musicologist Denis Herlin, who mastered the harpsichord under the tutelage of such keyboard legends as Kenneth Gilbert and Huguette Dreyfus, has presented an exemplary edition of a classic from the harpsichord repertoire.' (Jury of the German Music Edition Prize on BA 10844)
Bärenreiter presents Book II of Couperin's 'Pièces de clavecin”, first published in 1717, In addition the eight preludes and one allemande from his treatise 'L'Art de toucher le clavecin” are included in the appendix. For the first time Denis Herlin has evaluated the many later impressions of the original print, most of which he unearthed himself in international libraries. By preserving the essential features of the original print while largely dispensing with disruptive page-turns within the pieces, the volume brings modern performers close to the special sound of this music. Rounding off this pioneering new edition are an extensive Foreword, notes on historical performance practice, a comprehensive glossary, facsimile pages and a detailed Critical Commentary.
- Pioneering edition with the first-time evaluation of an extensive body of sources
- Includes Couperin's original expression marks
- Contains nine original compositions from 'L'Art de toucher le clavecin”(1716-17)/ Répertoire / Clavecin

Canaanite Fantasy No. 3. Par LEEF YINAM. Similiar to its two sister-works, ELEGY looks back to the past and to ancient musical colors and ideals, combining musical ornamentations of nature within contemporary Western modes of expression. The composer accounts that 'the most interesting and attractive challenge for me was to try to relate to the special characteristics of the harpsichord - its rather confined range of dynamics on the one hand, and the great richness of the single tone on the other - and to attempt to formulate a contemporary view towards the historical and stylistic connotations of this instrument. The work combines some typical music structures, such as repetitions and sequential patterns, within ageneral improvisatory feeling, and leads, as the climax resolves, to a short quation from J.S. Bach's 'The Art of Fugue', which gradually disintegrates into the central motif of the work. The title ELEGY invokes a looking backwards, with a sense of longing and maybe even sadness, to a world of sounds that has perhaps lost its glitter, to a past era, but not without a certain hope for its renewal.'/ Répertoire / Clavecin

for Harpsichord and Strings. Par BACH JOHANN SEBASTIAN. In early 1729 Bach became director of the so-called 'Scottish Collegium Musician' a music organization of students and local citizens. The remarkable results of this undertaking are the concertos for harpsichord. Today it is almost certain that practically all of these concertos were transcribed from concertos for melody instruments (mostly violin or oboe). The Concerto in F minor, BWV 1056, is the fifth of the harpsichord concertos contained in the autograph score that Bach wrote out in or around 1738 (Berlin Staatsbibliothek, Mus. ms. Bach P 234). It is one of those harpsichord concertos that reveal themselves to be transcriptions even though the original model is nowlost. - Urtext of the New Bach Edition - Full score & parts (BA5228), two-keyboard reduction (BA5228-90) and study score (TP410) format 22. 5 x 16. 5cm (all 6 concertos) available for sale/ Répertoire / Clavecin et Instruments à Cordes

G minor BWV 1058-In early 1729 Bach became director of the so-called »Scottish Collegium Musician« a music organization of students and local citizens. The remarkable results of this undertaking are the concertos for harpsichord. Today it is almost certain that practically all of these concertos were transcribed from concertos for melody instruments (mostly violin or oboe). The Concerto for Harpsichord and Strings in G minor BWV 1058 is the last complete work in the original autograph score of harpsichord concertos that Bach wrote out in or around 1738 (Berlin Staatsbibliothek Mus. Ms. Bach 234). However it only came to occupy this position later when the manuscript wasbound. It stands at the very outset of the genesis of this group of works and marks the earliest stage in Bach’s efforts to transform concertos for melody instrument and strings into harpsichord concertos. In this case the original model the Concerto for Violin and Strings in A minor (BWV 1041) has survived thereby allowing us to examine Bach’s technique of arrangement in detail.- Urtext of the New Bach Edition- Full score & parts (BA5230) two-keyboard reduction (BA5230-90) and study score (TP410) format 22.5 x 16.5cm (all 6 concertos) available for sale

Version 2010-“Books talk to each other” - Umberto Eco’s statement could just as easily apply to music as Les Citations for Oboe Harpsichord Double Bass and Percussion by Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013) brilliantly proves. Written in 1991 the score was reworked by the composer for the Festival d’Auvers-sur-Oise where the new version premiered in June 2010. The origin of this work goes back to For Aldeburgh 85. Written for the 75th birthday of singer Peter Pears the piece takes up a fragment of Peter Grimes whose leading role had been written by Britten for the beloved tenor. Dutilleux adds a page titled FromJanequin to Jehan Alain in which appears a song from the Renaissance composer “L’espoir que j’ay d’acquerir vostre grace” used by J. Alain in his Variations for Organ on a theme by Clément Janequin. The junction between the two parties is made through an Interlude that introduces the “wolf’s moan” theme from the ballet Le Loup (The Wolf) composed by Dutilleux in 1953 for the troupe of Roland Petit. This subtle tangle of quotations forms a shimmering and sensual work where the uniqueness of an authentic artist powerfully asserts itself.
